Yeah, I heard that too. It's time I start playing with some high brightness IR LEDs. Hell, you could even spell "idiots" and they wouldn't be able to do anything - it's not illegal to carry a battery and a bunch of LEDs.
I think having "PIRATE" spelt out across the back of my jacket would be brilliant, and it could result in a very funny conversation as you feign ignorance and they try and explain what they have seen.

I ran into the installation size surprise when I was testing server 2008 - I was pretty surprised when the system partition was about 20gb a few days after install without me installing anything on it.
This is how they fit 20gb onto a 3gb DVD.
So its using hardlinks, but the kicker is I think every installer, and explorer report the size as multiples of the actual file size.
Id love somone to tell me that I'm wrong here, as that seems pretty crazy to me!

I was a ISP support chap in a previous life, during the blaster days.
A fairly common reaction when explaining to people that they had been infected, was to be shouted at for "sending my PC viruses".
Sadly I think that before any quarantine plans can be implemented a pretty major shift in user perception must occur - otherwise the level of bitching that will occur will be apocalyptic.

Watchmen Watched 489
In a blatant attempt to make my movie-going a valid business expense, I'm putting together some notes on Watchmen, and providing a place for you all to discuss it. The first thing I want to say is that I had high hopes: If you ask any serious comic book nerd what the most important book is, they will probably give you one of two answers, and "Watchmen" is the right one. So really Snyder, the director of 300, could only do wrong. Fortunately for me, he was very true to the book: just like 300, many sequences are shot-for-shot from the comics. Some stuff didn't make it, and the new ending has a different meaning to me (one that really isn't as satisfying, but is certainly cleaner). But what I can't say is if it was a good movie or not. I sorta wish I could get an impartial opinion of someone who isn't a nutty fan of the book to tell me how it stands as a movie. I imagine a bit slow, wordy and maybe a bit confusing in parts. I'll leave full reviews to others, but I enjoyed the picture and suspect you will too.

State Cannot Force Removal of SSNs From Privacy Advocate's Site 262
jvatcw brings us a story about Betty Ostergren, who operates a website dedicated to pointing out the social security numbers visible in public records. The purpose of the site is to raise awareness of privacy concerns regarding the personal information shared in Virginia's governmental websites. Legislation was introduced in Virginia to combat Ostergren's website, but last Friday a judge shot down the attempt to censor her, writing, "It is difficult to imagine a more archetypal instance of the press informing the public of government operations through government records than Ostergren's posting of public records to demonstrate the lack of care being taken by government to protect the private information of individuals."
