South Park Creators Given Signed Photo of Saddam Hussein 1297

Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the creators of South Park, were given a very special gift by US marines: a signed photo of Saddam Hussein. During his captivity, the marines forced Saddam to repeatedly watch the movie South Park: Bigger, Longer And Uncut, which shows him as the boyfriend of Satan. Stone said, "We're very proud of our signed Saddam picture and what it means. It's one of our biggest highlights."

Simple: Allow the holder to declare a value of the property when they copyright it and pay taxes based on that value. And then, if they ever want to sue for infringement, that set value is the maximum damages. This way, those outrageous RIAA claims of 100k$+ per song would have to be backed up by a yearly tax, per song ( say 10% tax). Then they would either be forced to pay 10k$ per year, per song, or give up their copyright to the song.

Submission + - Forum and IRC integration

Genocidicbunny writes: "A forum I have been frequenting for a few years has a chat room that has steadily declined in use. Most often there are only 4 or 5 active people on including me, while the forum itself is pretty active. Recently and idea has come up for a way to revitalize the chatroom, as well as get some faster action going on the forum. The idea is to create a shoutbox like IRC client that automatically connects to the IRC server thats used by the forum, and displays the messages directly in the chat room. It has to essentially be a lightweight integrated client that doesnt go through a middleman to get the messages to the server ( with the forum load that would make the whole system horrendously slow ). Problem is, nobody who pitched in has any idea on how to do this. Some of us have small amounts of coding experience, and can most likely get through a bit of configuration relatively easily, but there is no way any of us can do this from the ground up. So have any Slashdotters ever done/seen something like this? Is it even possible or are we frolicking in the fields of imagination? If it is possible, what would be the best way to do it, and still allow the server to remain responsive?"
