Comment Kinda cool (Score 1) 55

So while this researcher's theories are new and different, how does this information help us as humans? Can we now predict the next ice age? Is there something we can do to change Earth's perturbations?

Comment External Monitor (Score 1) 333

I develop with a MacBook Pro Retina, 15 inch. My biggest concern 90% of the time isn't necessarily with the laptop display itself but with the capabilities of the video card. I routinely connect a 27 inch Thunderbolt display for desktop use and would like to add a second. It seems that the better the laptop display, the bigger external monitor I can connect when at the office. With this reasoning, I am depending on manufacturers to keep upping the ante to make my laptop more functional for normal use. For times when I need it portable, I can change the settings to whatever is comfortable.

Comment Too much data...NOT (Score 0) 267

I think Netflix puts their data on tape too. Oh wait, no they don't because they have to use it. If the LHC folks are putting the data directly on tape, I am guessing the data isn't really worth much. If it was valuable and needed to be analyzed, it would go directly to a hard disk.

Comment Cartridge design is part of the problem. (Score 1) 233

Guns (or gun barrels) are made of metal because modern cartridges are not strong enough to manage the burning of the gun powder. When the primer is hit by the hammer and ignition starts, pressure inside the brass cartridge builds and causes the brass to expand. The cartridge expands to the diameter and length of the chamber. The expansion also releases the bullet which travels into the barrel, a slight force fit, and as pressure builds sends the bullet down the barrel and out of the gun. For a plastic chamber to work, we would need to redesign cartridges to handle the pressure without being encapsulated. However, even by doing that, the barrel of the gun wouldn't last. Jacketed bullets combined with the hot burning powder tend to wear the rifling over many shots. Without a metal chamber or rifled barrel, I don't see how a printed gun could ever be useable long term with today's cartridges.

I disagree with that assessment. I have a long torso and shorter legs. I am big as well. When the seat in front of me is reclined, the back of their seat hits my knees and their hair is directly in front of my face. It's fairly disgusting to have to look at the top of one's head for an entire flight and especially gross when they smell.

That is the current proposal from the GOP. The Senate and president are REFUSING to even talk to them about it.

THE DISCUSSION IS OVER. The senate and president don't *need* to talk to the crazies because IT IS ALREADY A LAW. You've already had this debate.

Or is this up for debate every year? Every time an already existing and passed law needs funding, but some disagree with it, the whole country can be held to ransom by those who disagree?

You people make me sick. You ignore your own system, you are destroying your own government for fringe interests.

You mean like the discussion about abortion or maybe the discussions on gay rights. Or how about DOMA, that was a good one too for about 5 minutes. My favorite is the 18th amendment. Good, ongoing discussions about that one. No discussion is ever over in the USA. That's the whole point of having lawmakers and a flexible document that we govern by.

Comment Maybe the CO2 is keeping us warm.... (Score 1) 324

A panel of experts....They may be experts but appointing them to a panel pretty much tell us the outcome. "The panel will determine.." and no matter if they are right or wrong, they will determine exactly what was asked of them. In this case they could be right or they may be part of the UN bandwagon that wants to control the world. Would the panel ever come back and say that we are lucky we are pumping that CO2 into the air or it would already be another ice age? I bet not or the money would stop flowing to their research.

Comment Tip in cash (Score 4, Insightful) 167

I have used Uber and find it to be a convenient service. I recognize the additional fees that go on my card and also tip the driver in cash. From what I read in the article, it sure looks like some sour grapes from the drivers. They agreed to the program and are now complaining that they aren't making enough. Seems like they should find another pimp.
