The Internet Archive is very good to preserve open source projects. It is not like Github, but it is good as a search library for ISO images, source code and old software. Also a lot of Creative Commons wikis get dumped there (and I guess we all know the wayback machine). Check it out: http://www.archive.org/

I have the same issues with OS/2 source code. Not been able to attract new and younger programmers and many of the source code is scattered on the web with the risk of being lost.

I'm doing the following:
1) I had organized all source code I was able to find on GitHub:
- Created a Organization on github - https://github.com/os2world
- Organized the repos in "named-categories"
2) Created a Wiki to organize the catalog.
3) I will upload a copy of all repositories and a wiki dump to the Internet Archive. http://www.archive.org/

This are my steps to try that the source code do not get lost.

This is the best choice, it not only flies (back to the future II) but it also travel in time. That will be a good bang for the buck.

I think we still miss a universal, open source, Office suite conversion tool (Or maybe it is already out there and I haven't find it). For example, if you find an old .123 file, depending on the date, the best way will be to open it with SmartSuite 9.8, save it as newer .123 or as .xls. If you save it as .123 the only want to turn it into .ods is to use IBM Symphony 1.3 (?) to turn it into ods.

If you can not find SmartSuite (or older 1-2-3) you are doomed. So I think that an extendible open source converstion tool is required.

It is not a myth. The OS decays. All the stuff you install and de-install, all the crappy drivers that you install on the OS makes the registry gets bigger, it makes Windows to under-perform and slows it down. No matter if you un-install all the extra things you don't use anymore, the OS will never get back to the original state. That is why a full reinstall will make it better.

But there is one thing that I noticed. For the first time ever on Windows 8.1 the "refresh" functionality of the OS worked very good. It took a long time but it recovered to a refreshed state.

I don't think that Google+ is gone. For example I noticed that you can switch you identity on YouTube according to your "Pages" on Google+. I think that was a cool feature to allow your "Organization" to have a YouTube identity.

The problem are not the devices, Google TV, Rouku, Fire TV.... and now Android TV are solid platforms, very nice to use, very powerfull, with a lot of potential. But the content is the problem. Netflix is good, but people just don't complete erase Live TV from their mind with they use it. Live TV should be a part of any intelligent TV device, broadcaster needs to stop being local and start being World Wide. The broadcaster needs to re-evaluate their buiness to really have a "SmartTV" take off.

I insist that we need the final "YouTube" for Live TV. Let all the broadcast to join it and put their live content on a single WW catalog.

I think they need to diversify the volunteers population. They will be amazed to see how many people exists that can be up to eight hours at day without doing anything :)
