Submission + - Chrome the new Inertnet Explorer?

Sla$hPot writes: Why is it that every loving* company that has success, starts loving their customers / users?
Chrome is becoming more and more crappy compared to it's competitors every day.
It appears that the development on chrome as has basically stagnated.
Tab management is pretty much useless, even though it has to be one of the most important browser features.
Is it just me or does anybody else cares about tabs?
Some time ago Slashdot did a poll on tab usage. I might have voted 4-6 tabs at the time. Today it would be more like 50-60.
So every time i restart my computer after system updates and forget to recover the closed tabs...gone!..hurts and anger :(.
New HTML(5) features lack behind all other browsers. Especially canvas.
It appears that the new Google policy is to stop development in an areas where the have achieved a dominant position just like MS did when they ruled? We all know how that went.
Currently my preferred browser is Chrome, but i'm not sure anymore.
Perhaps everyone is just to focused on App development, what ever that is. What's the heaven* is an App anyways?
Btw. it's not fair to call the Internet Explorer inert (anymore). It seems like MS are catching up on internet browsing (apparently because they have to).
I might just be impatient, but i think that to little effort is being put into HTML and browser development, considering how important it is.
The web browser is the single most used App today and HTML will still be here in fifty years, so why not bother to do it right?

Submission + - Development woes on a Saturday evening (nokia.com)

Sla$hPot writes: Just took a deep look at Android development today.
Thought it would be a good idea to catch up on the latest mobile platform development.
After spending three to four hours going through the documentation feeling ready to spend the rest of the evening doing the tutorial section.
SDK installed, Eclipse (Indigo) has been updated with the latest Android plugin. Ready to go.
First the notorious HelloWorld.
Dead easy. Just three lines of code.
Then hit run.. and wait some, while the emulator starts.
And then wait some more...15 minutes later a few popups appear asking if you want to wait for the process or close it. Chose wait and wait some more.
The Android screen finally show..But no hello message.
WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!
Im sure this means that i should have to have an Android device (instead of my iPhone) to debug through the USB port.
So, I can't spend anymore time on this crap...Where is the iPhone plugin for Eclipse?
Doesn't exist :(
What about Windows Phone 7 then?
Are there any Windows Phone 7 out there?
Why make things so f#% difficult.
If it so hard to make an emulator that performs decently on most systems, why not just make a web enabled emulator (in Eclipse) that just works and performs all the time.
Perhaps one should try out Qt instead.
It does look very impressive, but what are the chances that it will run on any mobile platform anytime soon if ever? /Moan

Submission + - HTML the new HTML 5

Sla$hPot writes: HTML the new HTML 5.
http://www.zdnet.co.uk/news/emerging-tech/2011/01/21/html-editor-drops-html-5-term-40091514/
How about it?
It seems that the term HTML 5 has been dropped by W3C in favor of the good old classic name HTML.
I like the idea since HTML 5 is "just" a bunch of new features, js libs and amazing workarounds to enable rich content like vector graphics, animations, video and sound.
Things that should have been supported ten years ago.
The name drop of HTML 5 implies a new area of developer driven evolution which is great for the WWW and that has been missed out for so long.
Thanks to Steve Jobs for killing off flash by adding web-kit to mozilla (not that one can't do it your self in PAJ plain ass javascript).
LONG LIVE HTML
