In the standard A and B plugs the data pins are recessed compared to the power pins. Grab any standard cable and you can slide it in until the power makes contact, giving you charging without any data connection.

There's no shortage of people willing to spend more than $400 for an iPad.
The convenience of a tablet device should not be underrated, though at that price you can get an ultra-light netbook or a fully fledged ultra-portable laptop.
This extension is really just a API to communicate with DRM plugins. Whilst it would be good to standardise on a single API, it still requires having closed source plugins to do the actual decoding.
Kinda like what Flash does now.
