Late in 2009 I had the opportunity to setup a brand new D-Link DAP 1522 access point and I discovered a telnet interface with hardcoded credentials in the firmware. I have never disclosed the vulnerability to the vendor or publicly. Four years later the issue is still there on most D-Link SOHO network devices.

In the standard A and B plugs the data pins are recessed compared to the power pins. Grab any standard cable and you can slide it in until the power makes contact, giving you charging without any data connection.

I've been doing this for years to charge a MP3 device without it being mounted by the host computer.

What else could be the reason for investing more than $400 on a smallish computing device?

There's no shortage of people willing to spend more than $400 for an iPad.

The convenience of a tablet device should not be underrated, though at that price you can get an ultra-light netbook or a fully fledged ultra-portable laptop.
