Kentucky Announces Creationism Theme Park 648

riverat1 writes "On December first, Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear announced that a creationism theme park is expected to open in 2014. Park developers are seeking state tourism development incentives and could receive up to $37.5 million over a 10-year period. Gov. Steve Beshear said he does not believe the incentives would violate the principle of church-state separation because the 14-year-old tax incentives law wasn’t approved for the purpose of benefiting the Ark Encounter. The park will have a 500 foot replica of the Ark with live animals on it and a Tower of Babel explaining how races and languages developed. The park will be turned over to Answers in Genesis after it is built. They are a non-profit organization which may allow them to discriminate in hiring on the basis of religion."

Submission + - aptosid 2010-02 Review (desktoplinuxreviews.com)

JimLynch writes: I recently reviewed Linux Mint Debian, a very user-friendly version of Linux Mint based on Debian. This time I looked at another distro based on Debian, called aptosid.

Aptosid, for those who aren’t familiar with it, is actually made by the same developers that created the popular distro Sidux. There was apparently some conflict and controversy within the Sidux e.V association that resulted in Sidux morphing into Aptosid.

Submission + - Kno could destroy the ipad (kno.com)

An anonymous reader writes: My boyfriend is currently working at this lovely start up in Silicon Valley. Kno is working with students to create a table that is for students. The main features for it's use is: textbook, notebook, and internet. But honestly I think if they market it correctly it will be better than the ipad, particularly if they also work with teachers so this could be used in the class to take tests with or on. Also, it doesn't sound like a feminine product.

Alexander denied the military has any role in safeguarding civilian networks currently, but didn't rule out the option in the future.

Submission + - Photoshop's Long History with Parallelism (acm.org)

pulaski909 writes: Parallelism continues to present some of the most challenging problems for developers of high-performance software but it's not often we hear from developers wrestling with these problems in the consumer software space. As many veteran graphic designers know, Photoshop has had the capacity to leverage multiple processors since the 1990s. In a case study interview on acmqueue, chief Adobe Photoshop developer Russell Williams discusses how the team successfully implemented parallelism in the early years, as well as what the most pressing problems currently are. The interviewer is Intel engineer Clem Cole, which makes for an interesting discussion between representatives of both the hardware and software sides of the parallelism equation.
