is a lot better than "I think that the movement of planets influences my destiny".

Which is just as bad as "God created humans pretty much in the present form at one time within the last 10,000 years or so" Which is the belief of 48% of the respondents in a 2007 Newsweek poll. http://www.pollingreport.com/s...

Submission + - Police use WhatsApp for surveillance operations, share intel with civilian.

TheP4st writes: A group of Swedish police officers thought it a good idea to use WhatsApp as a work tool for surveillance operations, the officer that set up their chat group mistyped one of the phone numbers to mistakenly include a civilian IT teacher. Once the teacher informed authorities about the mistake it took more than 24 hours before he stopped receiving sensitive case information that included criminal records excerpts, passport photos and communications between surveillance teams tailing suspects.

When confronted by Computer Sweden (article in Swedish) the officer responsible for setting up the group say "I know this server is not located in Sweden and that one cannot share every kind of information" Yet it took less than an hour from that the group were set up that the teacher started getting sensitive intel on suspects. The only mobile chat medium approved for sensitive information is Blackberry, and this initiative by a small group of officers happened as they do not have access to Blackberry handsets which are considered too expensive.

Submission + - Edward Snowden Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

SmartAboutThings writes: Edward Snowden has a chance of getting the 2014 Nobel Peace Price, as two Norwegian members of the Parliament have nominated him – Baard Vegard Solhjell, a former environment minister and Snorre Valen. For those who don't know, the Nobel prize has been running since 1901 and is awarded annually in Oslo, Norway. So, the fact that members of the Norwegian Parliament have proposed him for the Nobel Peace Prize could improve his chance of winning. After all, if Obama got this prize, why wouldn't Snowden get it?

As for smartphones, I think the telcos should focus on making typical users happy, and not go to extreme lengths just to satisfy a few Slashdot purists .

Making Facebook, Twitr apps and the like deletable can hardly be said to be going to extreme lengths, it's not like it involves any extra work to accomplish that goal, if anything it would mean less work, and there can be Facebook and other bloat pre-installed for those that want it and those of us that do not can remove it without having to void the warranty by rooting/jailbreaking. This benefits a larger amount of owners than the current prevalent model and might possibly have a minor negative effect on the telcos.

I believe that the estate of author Harry Harrison will have a good case against Rhinehart over the use of the name Soylent. For those not in the know, Harrison was the author of the book which Soylent Green is loosely based on, Make Room! Make Room! Whether there should be grounds for such a case based on a work that's 48 years old is of course highly debatable.

1. Own rights to Make Room! Make Room!
2. Wait for Soylent to become a huge commercial success.
3. Call in army of Lawyers.
4. Profit!
