Submission + - World's Biggest Pirate Music Site Shutdown (breitbart.com)

Mike writes: "The world's largest pre-release pirate site "OiNK" was shutdown in a raid on Tuesday according to British and Dutch police. Interpol-coordinated raids followed a two-year investigation by the British Phonographic Industry and the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry bodies. "This was not a case of friends sharing music for pleasure. This was a worldwide network that got hold of music they did not own the rights to and posted it online", said Jeremy Banks, head of the IFPI's Internet anti-piracy unit."

Submission + - Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) Desktop Edition - Review (lunapark6.com)

Michael writes: "http://lunapark6.com/ubuntu-710-gutsy-desktop-edition-review.html "I'll cut to the chase and say from the start that Ubuntu 7.10 (Gutsy) Desktop Edition is simply the best desktop operating system that I have ever used. From installation, to setup, to regular everyday use Gutsy is just a thing of beauty. I have been keeping up with the release since its initial rocky Alpha period, to the polished final Release Candidate released on October 15, 2007 and then apt-get upgrading to the final release. The end result is that the Ubuntu team has put together everything that you could possibly want in a desktop operating system and more.""

Submission + - Mom blasts Ballmer over kid's crappy Vista OS (computerworld.com) 6

Lucas123 writes: "While on stage at a Gartner's ITxpo conference today, Ballmer got an ear-full from the mother of a 13-year-old girl who said after installing Vista on her daughter's computer she decided only two days later to switch back to XP because Vista was so difficult. Ballmer defended Vista saying: "Your daughter saw a lot of value"; to which the mother replied: "She's 13." Ballmer said that Vista is bigger than XP, and "for some people that's an issue, and it's not going to get smaller in any significant way in SP1. But machines are constantly getting bigger, and [it's] probably important to remember that as well." Says the mother: "Good, I'll let you come in and install it for me.""

Submission + - Microsoft Releases IIS FastCGI Module (iis.net) 1

Marcy writes: Microsoft has just announced the final release of the IIS FastCGI module for IIS 5.1 (XP), 6 (2003), and 7 (2008). This FastCGI module was built with collaboration from Zend (creators of PHP) and intended to solve the CGI on Windows problem. Now the only question is, is this to stop people from switching to *nix servers or to make Windows sysadmins' lives a lot easier?
