A quick google search http://www.google.co.za/search?hl=en&q=alzheimers+parkinsons+smoking&btnG=Google+Search&meta= shows that this news is not exactly a secret anyway.

"Smoking lowers your chances of alzheimers" — they should put that on the packet of cigarettes :-).
