One of the more interesting Nova episodes I watched, a few years ago now, focused on a group of Catholic scientists priests (Astronomers, Physicists, Biologists, etc). It was refreshing to see that even within the Catholic Church there is room for faith and science, as they are sanctioned and paid by the Church.

There are a lot of "nutters" that do abuse Religious doctrine and pound the shit out of their bibles. At least the official stance of the Catholic church acknowledges and respects science, and doesn't discount it out of hand.

It really does shine a bad light on those fringe states that continue to push for their creationist agenda in schools, when not even the Catholic Church has that stance.

Haven't dealt with Alibaba, or its smaller subsidiaries... though I was tempted quite a few times. Ebay is probably fine for physical goods, but a crap-shoot for software. Ebay prices really don't impress me, as once you factor in shipping, bidding or even insta-buy - it's almost always been a better deal to just buy from Amazon and get it in 1-2 days. Just wish we could buy from Amazon.uk for a few things.

Amazon customer service is the best I've encountered ever, anywhere. They respond to inquiries and suggestions within 12 hours. Returns are never refused, even for reasoning like, "didn't like it, wasn't suitable."

The ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, and PBS stations that are provided via Cable may or may not have "some" Canadian content. Most-likely not. They are not local stations. Your local cable company has made a deal with an American affiliate to carry that channel. Except for when Global, ATV, CTV, ASN, or CBC simulcasts a show the Ads aren't even changed from what that American affiliate airs.
I lived in Canada for 39 years, the only "Canadian-Content" I ever saw on American television Networks was the odd time they would cover a Canadian news story. Less than a half-dozen of the countless Canadian television shows ever made it to the US. More than likely as America always does, they would take scripts/ideas and redo the whole thing instead of airing the original.

Global, CBC, ATV, CTV, etc have to to comply. The stations that rebroadcast or simulcast American Television content.

The other part is satiation, and insulin response. Higher levels of fructose do not trigger a normal insulin response, and while food sweetened with sugar vs HFCS will have a similar caloric value --- you wont "feel" satiated due to the unbalance and irregular insulin response. Thus you are more inclined to continue to consume more.

Coca-cola for example, anywhere else in the world, except the U.S. is made with sugar. You will (should) feel satiated after consuming a bottle of a sugary beverage. Whereas with HFCS you will be more inclined to have another.

I imagine the Corn Industry lobby has done their best to suppress this information. The corn industry is heavily subsidized in the US, along with Sugar having import tariffs.

Hell, a few years back know their was a campaign to rename HFCS to Corn Sugar --- as HFCS has gotten too much bad press. I think it didn't get past the FDA

Until 1998 I ran DOS 6.2, DOSPPP (for dialup) and I don't remember what program I had for email. Along with NCSA Telnet. I think I used a TSR ("terminate and stay resident") - may of been required to launch DOSPPP.

Those "windows.exe viruses" wont get very far in a 16 bit environment.

I can understand when ppl bitch about obscure acronyms or Biology/Physics/etc concepts being bandied about as common knowledge... but really, SystemD --- LINUX ... it's quite possibly one of the most common topics on ./ this year.

Most of the players are across the pacific, European-continent countries, Russian. The asshole ratio is fairly small. The worst I've seen, less than a dozen times or so in a year (as I Blacklist them) are the people that make a snide/dickish comment when you lose, as opposed to "gg". Although most people don't say (type) anything at all.

All of the other online CCG/TCG's that I've come across force you to continually spend money, or at the very least invest far, far too much time to earn "virtual-coins".

The only thing you can "earn" in Spectromancer is renown. The card-list is self-contained; and only changes when new "Caster-types" are added, which has only occurred twice over the last 5-6 years with the two expansions.

Spectromancer is a bit more math-oriented than MTG, and you can't make your own decks in multi-player --- aside from some Tournament/Arena match-types. It's definitely not for everyone.

I introduced it to my 10yo nephew 4 or 5 months ago now, and we play almost every week for about an hour. One of the best investments I ever made.

Check out Degen or Sangean on Amazon. Some are shortwave radios, some world-bands, graphic-equalizers, portable, many take SD cards for MP3 playback.

That might be a bit harsh, but none of the companies on the page are exactly well known for cooperating with the projects they use, with Google being one of the worst offenders by forking both Linux and WebKit.

How does forking something make google the worst offender. Isn't that one of the key benefits to OSS that something can be forked?

I know right. RTS, and FPS and moar guns and death, Civ-likes and RPG's that take months to finish, they are much more valuable to modern computing.

ALl this talk of multiplayer sounds awfully FPS-centric. Try a card game (Spectromancer) based on Magic-the-Gathering, designed with Richard Garfield, and MTG art assets. No micro-transactions, no further purchases beyond the $20 up-front cost. And if $20 is too much, play single-player-only for free on Kongregate.

A game can last anywheres from 2 mins to 30, with the average of about 5-8mins.
