I have to admit to a certain schadenfreude every time a story comes out about Microsoft's latest failure. They have been too big for too long and I look forward to the day when someone won't TELL ME that I have to use the latest version of MS Word to write a resume or anything else. And for all those people who bought a computer with Windows 8 recently ... there's still Ubuntu! Ha, ha.

The thing is that almost nobody gets charged with first degree murder. Not that many years ago a person shot another at a party, in the head from three feet away. He was charged with manslaughter and was out on day parole in less than 2 years. You'd have be on your second or third killing or murder a Mountie to get more than 20 years.

They may be posting embarassing or scandalous items at the top of their search results, but I have noticed in the past that certain individuals have almost nothing about them. In particular, one former Canadian politician who was in the news every day for a couple years regarding a sex scandal. When I google his name almost nothing shows up, perhaps 2 or 3 general articles. What's the deal with that? I've read that there are persons who claim to get things "removed" from Google . The other day I googled "Bob Dylan Ten Of Swords" and got a whole page of Chilling Effects warnings. Dylan's lawyers must keep very busy. And yeah, as much as they perturb me, I use their stuff all the time.

Whenever someone utters something like this I feel the need to point out that Linus Torvalds (42) is married, and have three children (and his wife is a real life ninja, six time finnish national karate champion). When you get past 20 you will see that the smart guys actully are quite attractive to women wanting a family.

And smart guys are especially quite attractive when they are 42 years old and have a net worth of $150 million (as Linus Torvald has; I googled his net worth).

Such vitriol over my little comment. You'll have to excuse me. I'm Canadian, we're all apathetic. You on the other hand are the type of person who amuses me most. You're one of those who reads the paper or watches CNN and believes what they're saying. My advice would be to pull your head out of your butt and read a Noam Chomsky book. And one final reality check, your country is 16 trillion in debt and nobody is buying what the U.S. is selling these days.

Comment But the U.S. Has A Two Party System (Score 5, Interesting) 503

Anyone who watched one of the recent debates (yawn) would know there's really only two parties. And in actuality neither one runs the country. Big Money runs the country, Wall Street, the Oil companies, the so-called Military-Industrial Complex. Therefore anyone who thinks that it makes a difference who wins the election or that there will be real changes or that they will do what they say, well they just haven't been paying attention. One guy has made himself filthy rich by sticking it to the little guy his whole life and the other has done ... well, nothing. God bless America.

Comment Re:Salvation Army (Score 1) 570

Speaking as someone who's been down and out more than once, I'd concur that the Salvation Army is far and away .the most helpful organization when it comes to feeding needy people. I always make it a point to help them (if I can), and always tell people that they've helped me when nobody else would. Labelling them as anti-gay is a spurious argument. They ARE a church for goodness sake. Name one church that isn't anti-gay. They still help people.
