Submission + - Ask Slashdot - Looking for media import software
cslewis2007 writes: I am facing what I believe is a common problem — I have a variety of media capture devices (iPhones, iPods, iPads, cameras, etc.), that all sync to different computers. I am looking for a program that will allow me to import the media into a consistent file structure (based on when the media was created — using EXIF information). The problem that I have is that each camera's manufacture has their own way of dealing with their device's media — Sony's PMB doesn't import into a 'date-taken' folder, HP's Photo Essential doesn't handle mt2s files, etc.
The problem is compounded when I want to consolidate all the my family's media files into one spot (for backup purposes and for streaming). There are issues such as filename collisions, since different camera's will name their .jpgs the same way. Even with iPhoto, there may be collisions if more than one computer is used to sync, and there may be duplicates (which happens if you charge your iPhone on a mac and accidentally let iphoto import its pictures.
Does anyone know of a great media import program that will deal with the issues I described.
I don't want to use a 'cloud based way', because I want to be able to serve the image, etc. locally on my lan to my monitors, computers, picture frames, etc.
