Gay marriage and/or equal rights?
Currently gay folks have the right to marry someone of the opposite gender, just like the rest of us. A non-issue. Though, I personally would rather make all unions recognized by the state "civil unions" and let churches choose who gets married. For that matter if I wanted I could get married in a church, live with my spouse, and totally skip the step of telling the government if I wanted.
Prayer in school? Teaching of Creationism in science class?
Forced prayer, perhaps not. However, a class on the Bible or class on religious texts, or whatnot is not forbidden. Nor should it be forbidden for a teacher to have a Bible on his desk, nor for him to read it during lunch hour, nor for the teacher to have informal or extra curricular Bible studies any more so than a teacher running a glee club. As far as teaching Creationism in the class, that should be up to the state/school district. There is no allowance for the federal government to set educational standards or curriculum. Only the First Amendment's prohibition of establishing a religion.
The whole creation of the TSA and Patriot Acts under Republican leadership in the White House?
Patriot Act: US House - (Yeas: 357; Nays: 66) US Senate - (Yeas: 98; Nays: 1) It has also reauthorized since 2010 during a Democrat administration. I would also argue that the Republicans suffered major defeats in 2006 and 2008 for with "little less big government than the Democrats" behavior. If 2010 was a lesson in anything, it was that the Republican party relearned (at least to say) that the populace wants less government.
As to the TSA, I'd much rather see a firearm with fragmenting bullets handed out with each ticket. Or at least give the option if the free market would sustain it. I'm sure some more clever ideas could be offered up by other enterprising folks on how to handle air safety without giving over to a government sponsored frisking (virtual or otherwise).
