I tested for Vista and 7. After those beta programs ended I went straight back to XP. Compared to Vista and 7 (can't speak for 8) it's very lightweight and can install on just about anything out there.
The biggest issue now is finding drivers for newer laptops, especially for the audio.
The biggest thing that stops me from that is running Winamp with DSP plugins in WINE.
However, one laptop upstairs runs Debian full time. Mostly for streaming stuff into VLC Player or other similar movie players.

This guy is connecting via PC JRs. I use his stuff to get any old DOS box online via LNE100TX (for PCI) or NE2000 clones (for ISA).
I have a laptop that I loaded Debian onto it for watching some AVI files and other small things. The software available always seems to be a compromise with Linux though. That's the main reason I can't just straight up switch over from Windows yet.
However, I would love to the day that it's possible.
