Comment Re:First and third (Score 1) 290

With me being as open as I am about my drug use I am sure that there is a file on me. I am wondering when they'll come knock on the door. Probably never but when they decide my comments about my political leanings are attracting enough attention (or something like that) I imagine it will make a good excuse for them. I am an old man and I have no worries. As I am a good candidate to end up in a minimal security facility and am financially secure I'm even less concerned and figure it will make a good retirement plan.

As for them knocking instead of blowing my door down? I live in an area where we still have Mayberry-like police, for the most part, and the cops already know me (and already know about my drug use - I'm a USER not a PROVIDER, I buy in bulk though and that will surely interest them in a court room, it's probably difficult to convince a jury that 4oz of H is for personal use) so I'm not too worried about them blasting through the doors with guns drawn. Someone is likely to call ahead and let me know anyhow. I'll meet them on the porch and let them know that my lawyer is already on the way and I'll be remaining silent until then should something like that happen.

However, as I said, I have both money and it's personal use only. It is unlikely that they'll be after me. But, that doesn't make it any better. As far as I'm concerned, even though the courts have declared it acceptable, it is not okay to be spying on me. I'm a citizen on United States territory. Without a warrant then they have no right to spy on me, collect data on me, or keep track of my comings, goings, phone call meta data, postal mail, email meta data, or the likes. I don't have anything to hide or fear, I'm pretty open about these things, and I certainly have nothing to fear but that does not give them the right. I'm not worried for me. I'm worried for you, for my children, and for those who will undoubtedly be subject to injustice because of this.

Doesn't the UK currently have a bunch of "rednecks" running around calling themselves the English Defense League? They'll look like an idiot, sure, but they'll impact the debate. Your belief that people are different depending on their nationality is kind of strange. I've been from one side of the globe to the other - MANY times and have spent long periods of time in other countries. People are people anywhere you go so I find your statement amusing and a bit bigoted. Perhaps it is based on ignorance? Get out, travel more, and you'll find the planet is right full of bigots (such as you) and idiots (such as me).

schwit1 writes: Archaeologists have found the rusting remains of 44 submarines off the United Kingdom’s coast, an oceanic graveyard made up mostly of vessels from the German Imperial Navy dating to World War I.

Der Spiegel reports a quartet of divers are now at work probing the massive trove of 41 German U-boats, and a trio of English submarines, found at depths of up to 50 feet, off England’s southern and eastern coasts.

"We owe it to these people to tell their story." says archaeologist Mark Dunkley.

It appears that you meant to reply to someone else as your comment hasn't anything to do with what I said but I'll address it anyhow just as my other comment was addressing the point they had made. It *does* do something should someone wish to do something to honor him and some group use his criminal record as a reason to object to it. Proactive isn't just the name of an acne medication.

Unfortunately the attackers have gotten every user's local username, password, and email address from the Ubuntu Forums database.
The passwords are not stored in plain text. However, if you were using the same password as your Ubuntu Forums one on another service (such as email), you are strongly encouraged to change the password on the other service ASAP.
Ubuntu One, Launchpad and other Ubuntu/Canonical services are NOT affected by the breach.

It takes all types to make the world go around so I guess you're welcome to think that but... Wow. I'm a straight up asshole and I don't even think that. Hell, I thought they'd already done this and he was pardoned and all that jazz. This is as bad as the Japanese still worshiping their WWII war criminals.

My first was a PET and I'm not even going to bother doing the math. Though the laptop that I'm using at this moment in time only has 4GB. I happen to have multiple computers so I'll just say, "A bunch more." I have a laptop with 8GB but that's the most RAM I have in any portable system. My desktop has 16 which is sad because I don't think I ever actually use more than 4GB at a time and then only when I've got a bunch of tabs open and one of them is running a Flash movie or something.

I'd say that RAM is no longer a bottleneck at this point in computing history.

I'd have given him probation, as I mentioned, but attempting to rig an election by stealing credentials AND get $8000 for his trouble is certainly criminal. This isn't trivial. This deserves punishment. Assuming it is his first offense I'd say any time in jail is a bit much UNLESS he violates probation or fails to finish the many many hours of community service I'd sentence him to if I were the judge. But this is hardly trivial and you know it.
