Comment Awfully bad summary (Score 1) 311

This is an awfully bad summary. There is no need to try to be snarky from the beginning. Also, what Bloomberg's press secretary said is so stupid that is fitting for the Innocent's day, the spanish and latin american version of April's fools that was yesterday.

Of course thieves and muggers will try to steal expensive gadgets. People don't wear expensive jewelry like in past years because it is out of fashion and, unlike jewelry, gadgets can perform an useful function so they are a more common and convenient target than wallets full of credit cards and no cash, jewelry or expensive watches.

Instead of saying stupid stuff to the press the mayor should blame the thieves themselves, the growing income gap that makes easier to rationalize crime for people that don't have anything to lose, or the bad economy for the increase in crime instead of Apple o any other consumer electronics company.

Still, I would like to see the next, stronger, lighter and not glued version using Lego Technic beams. There is too much room for improvement :).

Maybe not legal, but a moral and ethical constraint certainly they have. There is a reason why big, new and prosperous companies like Google can exist and are created in western countries and not in Sahara Africa, because a knowledge economy can only be created in a educated, stable, lawful and relatively prosperous society.

The alternative to a strong, well funded state is like you pointed out, Somalia, or, if they want a closer example, Mexico. The town in central Mexico were my grandmother lives is in such level of lawlessness that since 3 years ago I can't visit her without a significant risk for my life. Some people in USA really don't have a clue of how nice they have their life there. Why they think that people want to live and work in USA so badly to die trying? The strong institutions of the USA are the source of their prosperity, not the unlimited self interest.

As an example of successful transition among products, we can point out to the iPod Mini that was replaced by the iPod Nano even when it was the best selling product from Apple, and then the iPod line replaced by the iPhone. Aside from that, Apple don't owe its existence to cozy relations with a murderous dictatorship like most, if not all korean mega-conglomerates. After all, South Korea became a more or less democratic country until 1987 even if they kept being ruled by a member of the party of their last dictator,Chun Doo-hwan . Still, I must admire of them that at least their dictators and oligarchs weren't as stupid that the latinoamerican dictators/oligarchs. Apple holds over 33% of the japanese market, probably more with iPhone 5 launch. The average japanese or american still have a several magnitudes apart the purchasing power of the average chinese. Still, is good because Google forces Apple to innovate, and the nature of Android that makes easy to fork means that Google itself is forced to not choose favorites among the OEMs. Personally, after being a happy Nokia customer for more than a decade I feel bad for them. They are the ones are being hurt the most.
