Submission + - Capcom Online Store - Customer Service is Inept

webrunner writes: "At Capcom's Online Store (http://shop.capcom.com/store/capcomus/DisplayStoreHomePage) they had a deal — pre-order the new Phoenix Wright game and get a free plush Phoenix. I ordered two, one for me and one for my friend. The game's release date came and went, nothing. Unable to find a phone number for support, I contacted their support page.

After sending a couple of emails without a response, I received a message (sent to everyone who had pre-ordered I assume) saying they were sorry, and here was some compensation. Unfortunately the compensation was useless — it was a 5% coupon code, only usable in November. Why would I order something from them when I still had no way of knowing I would receive the first thing? Anyway, they promised it would ship "early november". Mid november hit, and I sent another email, with no response. I sent another one, and they just told me, sorry it's backordered. I sent another email asking if there was a reason it was backordered and when I could expect it. Then, insultingly, I received THE SAME form letter telling me it was backordered. The original email they sent was still visible in the reply quote text, but they sent it to me again. I then sent another email complaining about my email not being read. And got no response. I sent another, and four days later received an email saying that the game shipped. I received it last week, but there were no plush toys. Furious, I sent another email outlining how I've been wronged every step in the process and I demand compensation. I sent another, and another. I finally got a response- and it just said, be patient, the game shipped. WELL YES. It shipped. I have it, but the order was NOT COMPLETE. I caution everyone never to shop at the Capcom Online Store, or any Digital River run store again — and I caution Capcom to find a provider that can actually provide the service they promise."

Microsoft to Buy DoubleClick? 195

roscoetoon writes to tell us Bloomberg is reporting that Microsoft is in talks to buy DoubleClick. Seen as a move to compete against the Google advertising engine Double Click owners Hellman & Friedman are seeking a $2 billion payday. "The purchase would give Microsoft tools to battle Google Inc. for ads that appear on Web sites. DoubleClick works with advertisers to create online campaigns, such as streaming video clips to promote New Line Cinema's movie "The Number 23." The New York-based company's Dart technology monitors the performance of Internet ads for marketing companies."

How eBay Sellers Fix Auctions 556

Boj writes "The Times online is carrying stories on fraud carried out on eBay using shill bidding. Citing eBay's changes to security as aiding the shill bidders and this fraud: "Last November eBay changed its rules to conceal bidders' identity — making it even more difficult for customers to see whether sellers are bidding on their own lots.""

Blue Origin Release Flight Videos 180

Reality Master 101 writes "Space start-up Blue Origin (financed by Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos) had a secret test flight on November 13, 2006. They've now released video and pictures of the very successful flight. Looks like they're making good progress." From the page: "We're working, patiently and step-by-step, to lower the cost of spaceflight so that many people can afford to go and so that we humans can better continue exploring the solar system. Accomplishing this mission will take a long time, and we're working on it methodically."

David Pogue Takes On Vista 533

guruevi writes to let us know about a review of Microsoft Vista in the NY Times, in the form of an article and a video, by the known Mac-friendly David Pogue. In the article, Pogue recasts Microsoft's marketing mantra for Vista: "Clear, Confident, Connected" becomes "Looks, Locks, Lacks." Pogue writes that Vista is such a brazen rip-off of Mac OS X that "There must be enough steam coming out of Apple executives' ears to power the Polar Express." But the real fun is in the video, in which Pogue attempts to prove that Vista is not simply an OS X clone.

Microsoft's Patent Pledge "Worse Than Useless" 140

munchola writes "The Software Freedom Law Center has declared that Microsoft's patent pledge to open source developers is 'worse than useless'. SFLC chief technology officer, Bradley Kuhn, has written to FOSS developers warning them that 'developers are no safer from Microsoft patents now than they were before'. According to Kuhn: 'The patent covenant only applies to software that you develop at home and keep for yourself; the promises don't extend to others when you distribute. You cannot pass the rights to your downstream recipients, even to the maintainers of larger projects on which your contribution is built.'"

Preview of Vista On Old Hardware 259

Grooves writes "According to tests performed by Ars Technica, Windows Vista will need some coddling on old hardware. As a follow-up to their performance review of Vista Beta 2, Ars tested the latest public builds of Vista on hardware spanning from 2001 to a Thinkpad purchased a few months ago. The results show that Vista is extremely RAM hungry, graphical power is less of an issue unless you want eye candy, and hard drive I/O is critical. Also, their experience with 'in-place upgrades' was abysmal, and mirrored my own experiences."

Microsoft Partners With Zend 223

jesse.castro writes to point out news of Microsoft striking a multi-year partnership with PHP provider Zend to improve PHP's performance on Windows-based Web servers. From the article: "Rather than marking a sudden change of course, Microsoft is openly engaging in a dialogue with Zend, a key open source promoter, and millions of PHP developers, analysts said."
