Submission + - VCL opening computer labs in the Clouds (ncsu.edu)

pjones writes: "Say good bye to computer labs as VCL takes the labs to the Cloud.

The Virtual Computing Lab is designed to help spread the access of sophisticated computing resources to K-12 schools, community colleges and universities across the state. MCNC, SAS, Cisco, IBM and Nortel also have backed educational initiatives at the Friday Institute. MCNC operates the North Carolina Research and Education Network, the high-speed backbone linking most of the state's universities as well as community colleges and schools.

NCSU's Virtual Computing Lab (VCL) and IBM are offering the VCL code as a software "appliance" for use in schools to link to the program. (Downloads are available at ibiblio at UNC-Chapel Hill.) The VCL also is partnering with Apache.org to make the software available and to allow further community participation in future development"
