Journal Journal: Winter 2

I love going out to play in the snow. Sledding, snowball fights, making snowmen. if there is a backyard and a couple of inches, I'll at the very least have made a snow angel before it's melted.

this is my first experience with having a long commute in the winter. I hope it doesn't affect my opinion of snow too much. I usually try to leave my house around 6:15 to be at work by 7:30, and I usually get there at 7:10. today, I left at 5:50, and got to work at 9. and I only slid around a little. but 25 mph on highways isn't fun, and is made worse by the fact that I need new tires. Thank goodness I rotated the tires a few days ago, or I'd have slid so much..well, I'm not that stupid. I just wouldn't have come in (I'm just stupid enough to come in anyway...)

If I don't die going home tonight, I look forward to rolling around in the snow for a bit, and if the weather holds, maybe a little sledding this weekend.

has anyone else found their childhood memories starting to faid when they're forced to drive in this muck? actually, really wouldn't even mind driving in it, if every other idiot would stay home :)

I think George Carlin said it best:

"Have you ever noticed that when you're drivin', anyone goin' slower than you is an idiot? And anyone goin' faster than you is a maniac?"

Upgrades

Journal Journal: Upgrading my .sig 6

I've been using this same .sig on slashdot just about since I've had an account, which must be late 98, early 99, at the latest. anyway, I was still in highschool when I wrote it, that's for sure. Geekcode seems horribly out of touch with the times, I mean.. look at what it has to say about Macs! sure the lack of command line bothered me then (would even more now, with how much at home I am in bash these days) but today, the new Macs make me drool. That is just one example of how dated that geekcode is. For prosperity's sake, here's the old one:

GIT/CS/PA d- s: a--- C++++ UL P+ L+(++) E- W++(+) N o? K? w O- M- V PS+ PE- Y+ PGP- t++(+) 5(+) X+ R tv+ b++ DI++ D+

of course, use the decoder page to translate it.

Now, for my new .sig... all the "Cool Kids" seem to be linking to their journal entries. that's a lot of pressure :) I mean, I can barely keep my webpage updated with anything relavant :)

can you tell it's a slow day at work? :)

I think I'm gonna leave my .sig blank for the time being, till I think of something catchy. I know lots of people use it as there tiny little Slashdot ad space. If I ever have something interesting to go to on my website, I might do that.

What do you think makes a good .sig?

Christmas Cheer

Journal Journal: X-mas, X-Windows... 10

I have some free time at work, so I thought I'd actually post my first (meaningful) journal entry.

Friends and family are starting to bug me about X-mas presents they should get me, and my feeble list needs some fleshing out, so what do does everyone else have on their lists?

As an aside, I've been trying to turn an old 486 laptop into a good X-terminal so I don't have to keep my noisy gaming machine in my bedroom, but can still run most of the same apps.. Does anyone have a recommendation on a distro I can install via a floppy and fit ssh and X on a 300Mb harddrive? Google has been less than helpful. all the X on a floppy Distros point to dead links. I'd like to try something with Gentoo, but I haven't found how to install from only a floppy, and I don't look forward to compiling on a 486. I have heard rumors about using a chroot environment to compile on a faster box, maybe I'll give that a try...

who's reading this thing anyway? :)

Journal Journal: rounded cables

so, my rounded cables should be sitting at home now. of course kiger says he found them cheaper. dumbass was all proud, but he bought them too.
