Submission + - Doctor Who (Actor) Warns Against Facebook (techweekeurope.co.uk)

judgecorp writes: Matt Smith, the current actor playing Doctor Who, doesn't use Facebook or Twitter, despite his geek icon status. He worries that social media encourages us to create "surrogate versions" or "celebrity versions" of ourselves. He also, arguably, doesn't need their help, being a celebrity already. Smith made the comments in St Petersburg, where he hosted the final of Microsoft's Imagine Cup for student inventors, won this year by a British team with a mesh music-playing application.

Ok, very fair point. I guess I like the credits in bob burger. And now that you mention it, probably in more than I thought about. On xbox, I guess I don't think it is nusience "too much" cause a quick b button and it is out. But if you have wireless, they can tend to disconect on you. I would still rank this bounds above a lot of others though.

Submission + - Banks push Congress to end credit unions' non-profit tax exemption

TheSeatOfMyPants writes: Banks in the USA angry at losing fed-up customers to credit unions are pressuring Congress to kill the tax exemption CUs need to survive as not-for-profit entities. According to the article, "the tax exemption is crucial to credit unions, which by law can't raise capital through public stock offerings the way banks can."

Based on figures in the article, the change would cost consumers $10B in fees/savings, and the government would only see a net gain of $0.1B in tax revenue. Credit unions are fighting the one way they can: asking Americans to contact their Congress reps via Don't Tax My Credit Union.

Netflix. That is my solution. I have been using hulu, and i'm almost at the point of throwing it out, but i only watch free stuff. So, ads and free. I may watch old things, and have no idea what tv exists, but I always have something to watch when I want, and don't have ads on netflix. I dought I will ever watch there entire library.

This would not be creepy, it would be more interesting. And if you posted someone at the end of the street with a table an fliers, than you could make a point. I have to agree with others, his approach is creepy, and isn't getting the right word out.
