As a self proclaimed expert in the field of economics, could you please post some of your credentials? But seriously, We DON'T know what it would do to the economy, its a fickle beast, and I would much rather NOT have to pay an extra 5 dollars at the gallon because The current numb-nuts in charge of our country want to sit in a chair and discuss "why did this happen what caused it", From what i can tell, and I'm no expert, the rig ignited, melted its supporting structure, fell down thousands of feet and crunched the line, and until we figure out how to make a rig thats invulnerable to a large thermonuclear warhead, I don't think we WILL know what to do. A good way to fix it? Remove all the bureaucrats, and let the engineers do what they do best,Fix the thing. In two more weeks the relief well drills will reach the point where they can permanently close it off(one is less than 3000 ft from hitting its intersect point, it takes about 10-12 days to spin that far, but don't take my word for it, its on BP's website), and i trust these engineers more than i trust any man/woman in Obama's administration. But this whole thing is about the same as Me not driving my other cars because one of them blew a pan gasket, and I'm afraid that because one blew they all will. Keep drilling, Sure, do a better check over the ones still running before you leave your house, but Business as usual. And before you say "OMG you don know anything about living in teh gulfs" LIKE HELL, I worked a shrimper in new orleans for 3 years, I know how much this is hurting businesses down there, the company I used to work for down there has packed up their boats with oil retrieval equipment and helped out with the leak as much as they can, BP is paying them for lost wages AND is also paying them 300 a day per person to do this, they know they made a mess down there and are doing everything they can to fix it, One bad apple doesn't mean the whole bushel is the same(unless your a politician). So remove The entire obama admin from it, all they are doing is putting undue stress on already tight wound engineers. To the engineers of the BP oil containment teams, fellow shrimpers of the gulf coast, and all who are trying to make the best of a bad situation, I Tip my rum to you. Cheers

When will people learn that It isn't the governments job to control private industry? Shit happens, Sometimes it is of no fault to any company or man/woman. Old equipment that they can only service when the government says its okay? Seems to me like the government is the one to blame because of all the regulations and ridiculous tariffs they shove up the industries ass whenever they go and send a crew down to work on oil caps and other equipment that keeps all of this from happening. You want to stop oil spills in the ocean? Let the drills tap more LANDMASS. On water operations are twice as likely to have issues because of all the policies, regulations, and anti-industry/anti-corporation BS they have to deal with. Yes its terrible when something like this happens, but if the industry is allowed to do what they need to do to service their equipment without a bunch of politicians getting involved then i think they would happen far less frequently.

Why Not nip it in the bud and just ban people in california from reproducing? I mean if they cannot take responsibility as a parent and make their kids eat healthy, then should they even be able to raise a child? I was raised on deep south food as a kid(having lived in all parts of TN, New orleans, and to some extent St Louis), But I'm fit and trim as anyone else in my age group is. Why? Because after all those DELICIOUS meals I worked off the weight, because my parents had the sense to make me do chores and exercise. It isn't the corporations, Nor is it the states problem if your lil timmy is 200 pounds, it lies solely with the parents who raised him, set boundaries, turn off the television(OMG but its so haaaard), It IS possible, I went without a television for 6 years as a kid(from 7 till i was 13), and let me tell you what those were the best years of my childhood. So Yeah, My statement still stands, Ban californians from reproducing, Problem solved(special permits to be issued to parents who pass an IQ test).

This just goes to cement the fact that obama and his entire administration are a pack of fudging idiots. Leave it running, or sell it off to private contractors.....oh wait, then they put caps and tariffs on them for breaking atmosphere and producing those much abused and misunderstood greenhouse gases the media is always using out of context. Then boom, they turn a loss into a profit and the industry dies....if we lose our space program, we lose our country. Everyone i speak with says "we will just use russian rockets to get to the iss and satellites....that, is the most idiotic thing i have ever heard. What happens if russia decides they don't like us anymore? Or what if one of our spy sats goes down and needs maintenance? Will they allow us to go up in THEIR rockets if a satellite of ours that circumvents and watches THEIR bases? It makes no sense to me, am i alone in that?

Then I guess it can no longer be called science then can it? All supposed "research" these days is tainted by political or monetary gain, sadly i do not foresee this being fixed anytime soon so for now we shall call science "shenanigans" Honestly, i think a room full of 5th graders could get more research done than our vaunted "experts". It doesn't help that the masses are far too easily swayed by the media about things "well, if he's on CNN/msnbc/fox/crazy science channel with a lab coat and nerd glasses i guess he knows his stuff". I seem to remember this thing called snake oil, and i seem to remember the salesmen all drove cadillacs and wore armani. Now we trade the caddy for a prius and the armani for a lab coat and voila....its a scientist in a box, ready to spread hysteria to the masses.

Seems to me like good ol government wants to have every major facet of our lives in their control. See, look at it like this. Obama makes it so that telecom "owes" the govt by giving them stimulus, which they will be obliged to pay back, when they cannot do so in the way the gov wants, they snatch em all up and make em government owned and run. Then, if good ol uncle sam so desires, he can completely and totally turn off what he wants, when he wants.....its shaping up to be quite the regime.....looks like 2010 just became the new 1984.
