Silicon Valley Insider notes that the so called savings would kill ad revenue. Lets not forget where most publications make most of their revenue. The real trick here is to make a profitable ad delivery system on portable devices in order to make subsidized delivery of the devices a real possibility.

This is exactly right. However, this is where individual responsibility comes in. If the government takes away our privacy, it's our own fault. The onus is completely on us to make changes when we dislike the current paradigm. You are responsible for your privacy and your freedom. Shirking that onto others is shameful and counterproductive.
