the habitats provided by older trees are much harder to replace.

these have an effect on wider parts of the environment such as keeping soil in place or supporting other flora and fauna. This can have much wider effects that are very hard to gauge.

also not all trees have the same effect on the nutrients in the soil around them , replanted trees tend to be the ones that grow fast but do not necessarily compliment their surroundings as much as their predecessors and often deplete them. Most woodlands are a diverse mix of various species of tree which
came about because thats what worked for the woodland , replacing it with what works for humans or economics is not such a good plan IMHO.

there are many other ISP's in the uk who do not respond to censorship requests.

I use andrews and arnold and they don't filter anything , not cheap but they are very good.

almost all of this filtering is at DNS level anyway so its trivial to bypass it if you know the ip or can find a valid ip.

Internet censorship is only attempted by people who fundamentally fail to understand it.

gaining a majority is not a mandate , it is just persuading a large group.

untill we get past the notion that one party/idiom should be in charge we will not have real democracy.

the whole point of democracy is to have all the views represented in the choices the government makes
not choosing one or the other every few years.

we have only got to the point of this flip flop form one side to the other because of corporate funding of
the major parties , its easy to fund the top two and switch between the too whilst they keep the same agenda.
if you tried that with a proper democracy with more than a few parties it would be prohibitively expensive to
by influence.

IMHO government in a capitalist society should exist to protect the people from negative effects of the market, this isn't happening

The ones who are not tory party members or relations of tory party members take that independence seriously , sadly there are quite a few tory affiliated judges
and as anyone who reads private eye will know they often let their mates off.
