Comment How do we know the third storm is coming? (Score 1) 111

This is hurting my brain a little. How do we know a third storm is coming when it's traveling at the speed of light toward us? Don't we detect storms by seeing them from earth, when the EM radiation has already traveled here? I'm guessing maybe we have sensors closer to it? Also doesn't it only take 8 minutes for sunlight to hit the earth?

Submission + - Satellite Sentinel finds evidence of mass graves (satsentinel.org)

jordan314 writes: George Clooney's Satellite Sentinel Project has found evidence consistent with allegations that the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and Government of Sudan-aligned (GoS) militias have apparently engaged in a campaign of systematic mass killing of civilians in Kadugli, South Kordofan. Based on an analysis of DigitalGlobe satellite imagery and eyewitness reports obtained by the Satellite Sentinel Project, SSP has identified a site consistent with mass graves in Kadugli.

Submission + - WHO: Cell phone use can increase possible cancer r (cnn.com) 2

suraj.sun writes: Radiation from cell phones can possibly cause cancer, according to the World Health Organization. The agency now lists mobile phone use in the same "carcinogenic hazard" category as lead, engine exhaust and chloroform.

Before its announcement Tuesday, WHO had assured consumers that no adverse health effects had been established.

A team of 31 scientists from 14 countries, including the United States, made the decision after reviewing peer-reviewed studies on cell phone safety. The team found enough evidence to categorize personal exposure as "possibly carcinogenic to humans."

What that means is that right now there haven't been enough long-term studies conducted to make a clear conclusion if radiation from cell phones are safe, but there is enough data showing a possible connection that consumers should be alerted.

I taught myself how to sing this to 200 digits in high school, which impressed no one. :) He stops right before the first 0, which I count as a rest when I sing it. I used this as an audition song for an a cappella group in college, and not surprisingly didn't get in. Switching up my repertoire to something less nerdy got me into another group.
