blogologue writes "I have a kid that's turning 4-years old soon, and I'm not able to be with him as often as I want to. To remedy this, I'm looking into whether or not getting him a phone could be a good idea to keep in touch. Being able to have a video chat is important, and as it is rare that a 4-year old has a mobile phone, and because he's got other things to do, it would be good to be able to turn off for example games and so on during time in the kindergarten. So other kids don't go around asking their parents for a smartphone. The main reason for getting the phone is keeping in touch, and as a bonus it can function as a device for games and so on during allowed times. Are there any phones that are suitable for such use? I don't mind if it's Android, iOS or something else, as long as it can be used to make video calls to other Android/iOS phones, and if it features other applications such as games, have limited, pre-defined functionality during certain periods of the day."

But if one uses Google to do a site search of Amplify.com (e.g., site:amplify.com donkey) you may get quite an unexpected eye-opener (redacted, but still NSFW). So, does someone at Amplify really want to "@&^$" your "a**"? Of course not. But this does serve as a cautionary tale of the perils of buying a second-hand domain name when pages of the shuttered site may live on in cache-land. Prior to its conversion to a site for kids' education, Amplify.com was a social sharing product that allowed users to clip favorite sites from the web and add their own commentary. Google does note that removed content may still show up in Google's search results in certain situations (removal requests can be made)." We purchased our domain name in February 2012 and took ownership of the site in July 2012 for use as our company's home page. Prior to that, the domain was used by its previous owners as a social-sharing site. Amplify Education, Inc. did not produce the cached content in question nor do we in any way endorse it. We’re working with Google and other search providers to make sure caches of our site are up to date. In the meantime, we apologize to anyone whose attempts to locate information on amplifying donkeys resulted in a negative browsing experience."

He didn't have to run a campaign at all. Illinois' 4th district has been so grotesquely gerrymandered that it's been nicknamed 'earmuffs.' It's designed to include two majority Hispanic areas.

This man hasn't ever received less than 75% of the vote, and has had this seat for 20 years. He hasn't had to run so much as a primary since around 1994.

To be fair, Nate Silver got all 50 states right on the presidential level. In the senate he only got two wrong; Montana and North Dakota who he called for the Republicans, but went Democrat, one of which was within 1%, and the other of which was because of an unexpectedly strong libertarian showing. And this is coming from a constitutionalist libertarian who thinks Obama is leading us off a cliff. Gotta give credit where credit is due.

Bullshit. I live in Seattle, where the average during the summer is around 70F, but when it gets to 70+ I'll be sweating even if I'm naked in my house sitting still. I typically wear a t-shirt and shorts for most of the year, unless it dips below 40F. I like to cool my room down to 60F during the summer, and during the winter I never turn the heat on. I moved here from Florida, and after living here for 3-4 years I became very accustomed to the colder weather.
