Comment Re:What if we overcorrect? (Score 2) 343

I recently read that at the same time light bulbs have gotten more efficient, total lighting power expenditure has gone up! Evidently, it's a combination of people using a lot more light when lighting gets cheaper to operate, and more ligthing being installed in general.

I can imagine if we start offsetting global warming we will produce more of its anthropogenic causes.

Russia Wants To Establish a Permanent Moon Base 313

An anonymous reader writes "Having established its presence in the Crimean Peninsula, Russia is now shooting for a bit loftier goal, a permanent Moon base. 'As reported by the Voice of Russia, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin told the government daily Rossiiskaya Gazeta that establishing a permanent Moon base has become one of the country's top space priorities. "The moon is not an intermediate point in the [space] race, it is a separate, even a self-contained goal," Rogozin reportedly said. "It would hardly be rational to make some ten or twenty flights to the moon, and then wind it all up and fly to the Mars or some asteroids."'"

Anyone Can Buy Google Glass April 15 167

An anonymous reader writes "Starting at 9 a.m. ET on April 15 anyone in the US will be able to buy Google Glass for one day. From the article: 'This is the first time the device has been available to the general public. So far, the face-mounted computers have been sold only to Google "Explorers," the company's name for early adopters. At first only developers could buy Glass, but Google slowly expanded the program to include regular people. Some were hand-picked, others applied to be Explorers through Google contests by sharing what cool projects they would do if they had Glass.'"

The GNOME Foundation Is Running Out of Money 693

An anonymous reader writes "The GNOME Foundation is running out of money. The foundation no longer has any cash reserves so they have voted to freeze non-essential funding for running the foundation. They are also hunting down sponsors and unpaid invoices to regain some delayed revenue. Those wishing to support the GNOME Foundation can become a friend of GNOME."

Because embracing anthropic climate change involves drastic controls on emissions, manufacturing, and energy generation

No because the oil industry has succesfully spread the lie that the necessary changes are drastic. Cutting emisions by 20% is not drastic, and does not change our way of life.

In this case no. This is a catalyzed reaction between hydrogen and carbon dioxide. The hydrogen comes from electrolysis. The reaction is a more complete version of this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S... They try to go past methane. That reaction is exothermic so you should not need process heat to any great degree. The reaction won't be 100% efficient but if it is too inefficient the cost range can't make sense.
