I will second this. I used this to encode all of my Kid DVDs so that the original copies are never ruined. My movies too, but for reasons of convenience rather than worries about damage. Combine this with a Popcorn Hour(my choice), MythTV, etc and you have your entire movie library at your fingertips.

I have to disagree with you on this point. I replaced an Athlon64 3800+ machine with a Popcorn Hour because the Athlon simply did not have the power to play back 1080p content. It could manage 720p no problem, but would stutter on 1080p enough to make it unwatchable. It was also far harder to setup and use MythTV then it is the PH. Sure the PH has it flaws, but it works out of the box with a remote and plays nearly any media you stream at it. Also, if you are starting from scratch, it is cheaper.
