It's a simple deal: She gets to keep her vast country-ruling powers, on condition she never uses them.

Power that can never be used is only imaginary power. It's like a car salesman saying "this expensive sports car now belongs to you, but you are not allowed to touch it or get inside it, and it will always remain here".

Actually, people count from zero without realizing it, in my opinion. See how they count:

1, 2, 3, 4, ...

Each number actually represents a change of state. The initial state is zero. When people say "1", it means they change state from zero to one. So they actually count from zero.

So Elop left Microsoft to head up Nokia, where he made supposedly very idiotic changes that had the effect of destroying Nokia's share price. Microsoft then buys Nokia at a fraction of the cost it would otherwise have been, and Elop returns to a prestigious role at Microsoft, where he's in with a shot at the CEO role.

That doesn't look the slightest bit dodgy at all.

Well in this case it looks more like: INFILTRATE - WEAKEN - ASSIMILATE

The automated driver, has a key advantage, it doesn't get distracted from driving, its primary goal is to get you from point a to point b as safe as possible.

<pessimist mode> What if this thing gets used by a transportation company, and they reprogram it with a new primary goal: to get the cargo from point a to point b as fast as possible?

Don't underestimate the power of capitalism (also called "greed").

As long as most printers and wireless cards and such are windows-only, as long as people send you docx files, as long as there are non-standard behaviors in MSIE that have to be tested for, as long as netflix uses silverlight... the windows monopoly still causes the linux user some annoyance in every day life.
