My little bit of snark is somewhat founded on fact: Apple really does like to patent their connectors. MagSafe power connector: patented. Lightning: patented. So it is possible that Apple is going to keep this connector unofficial and undocumented, and later release a documented and patented connector. But really I was just having a bit of fun there.

Honestly, I don't think Windows 7 -> Windows 10 will be nearly as bad as between Windows XP -> Windows Vista. Windows has been fairly stable under the hood since Vista - the driver model has stayed the same, the internal APIs are fairly similar with only minor additions, and there hasn't been a significant uptick in hardware requirements.

What I think businesses (and many users) hated in Windows 8 was the radically re-designed UI, but as far as I know, there were very few reports of technical incompatibilities. I think the same will be true of Windows 10. As far as UI goes, it mostly looks like an ugly Windows 7 with a few minor differences, but quite a few internal improvements.

In fact, it seems like this time MS is going out of their way to move forward with a lot of features in Windows 10 that will be very attractive for enterprise customers, such as improvements to active directory, built-in two-factor authentication, the ability to do in-place upgrades, etc. I think they've learned their lesson about ignoring the business customer. True, switching platforms may not be a business' first choice, but they sure don't have to jump on the latest OS if it feels like there's no value there.

One does not edit anywhere near the number of configuration files and install enough software to justify running as root all the time by a long shot. This isn't the Windows world where over half the software requires running as Administrator just to function.

I spend months at a time never touching the root account on my systems after they've been set up. I haven't seen a box that enabled root logins in over a decade, from any vendor or Unix flavour.

So I call "bullshit" on the theory that there are users out there logging in as "root" for the sake of "convenience."

Things like "cold fusion" and this could actually be useful if not managed by irresponsible teams seeking to make headlines for themselves. I'm a Comcast customer. Despite the horror stories they've largely been fine for me and I haven't had any major issues. I have their 100Mb service and consider it on the high end of being a reasonable value. I only subscribe to one of their low end TV packages (costs about $35/month) because their TV offering are WAY overpriced for what you get. There are about 10-15 channels I give a crap about and I'm not willing to pay more than I am now. I've thought about dropping the TV altogether but I do like to watch some TV now and then. TiVo makes it bearable to do so. A package with more channels would double the price I pay and I'd get maybe 3-5 extra channels I might watch. Just not good value.

Basically I'm waiting for ala-carte TV or a service through our network connection that provides basically the same thing. (No Netflix, Hulu, etc aren't there yet) I consider TV a frivolous luxury and I'm not about to drop $200/month for a bunch of channels I'll never watch.

You don't seem to understand how the US system works. You might want to brush up on Article 3, and Marbury v. Madison. Now, if you don't like that the SCOTUS has review over even the Constitution, then you've had since 1803 to start an Amendment process to change that.
