Google has banned advertisements critical of MoveOn.org, the far-left advocacy group that caused a national uproar last month when it received preferential treatment from The New York Times for its "General Betray Us" message. Google claims the ads were removed and would not be allowed to resume because they violated Google's trademark policy. Interestingly, Google appears to be selectively enforcing its policy, routinely permitting the unauthorized use of company names such as Exxon, Wal-Mart, Cargill and Microsoft in advocacy ads. An anti-war ad currently running on Google asks "Keep Blackwater in Iraq?" and links to an article titled "Bastards at Blackwater — Should Blackwater Security be held accountable for the deaths of its employees?"

Are you troubled by Google's censorship, or is it OK (or even desireable and neccesary for the good of the USA) to suppress the political speech of conservative people and parties you disagree with?

When users click on the URL in their email, they are directed to a private page on my website, and their username and IP address is logged. However, I noticed that when the user is a Gmail user, their IP address is always followed by a Googlebot-IP address (confirmed with whois). It appears that the Googlebot follows Gmail users when they click on links in their emails. I wonder, what does it do with this information? atommota writes: After years of complaints of police misconduct, some residents of high-crime neighborhoods in St. Louis are being given free video cameras to help them monitor officers. The American Civil Liberties Union of Eastern Missouri launched the project Wednesday after television crews last year broadcast video of officers punching and kicking a suspect who led police on a car chase. "The idea here is to level the playing field, so it's not just your word against the police's word," said Brenda Jones, executive director of the ACLU chapter.
This is in stark contrast to a report out of PA (and seen on Slashdot), where someone was arrested for felony wiretapping for doing the same thing.

NeuroManson writes: I finally made the leap to purchasing a cheap TwinhanDTV ATSC (D+A) tuner card recently, and after making massive efforts to get it to operate semi passibly, realized that I pretty much wasted $45 or so on it. Can anyone advise of a good HDTV tuner card for the PC? Requirements include: Reasonable price (if I can just get a standalone HDTV for the same price, it isn't worth it), allow for YPb/PR inputs, and be compatible with MythTV or Dscaler.

This is not a huge amount of requirements, but it still seems like ATSC/HDTV tuner cards are in their relative infancy, with only a handful of external tuner boxes, and another handful of PCI cards, only 1/3 of each category actually performing as advertised or at all. So for that matter, is there any reason why it's taking far longer for HDTV cards to make the market? Regular tuner cards have been available for computers for almost a decade and a half, and yet it's taken almost as long for HDTV tuner cards to show up on the market.
