I actually would like to see "make everything greyscale" button and keyboard shortcut in taskbar/etc.; too often colors screams at the eyes for no good reason.

Another thing: human eyes see more resolution in black and white than they do in colour. DVDs use twice as much data for luma compared to chroma, because it is an effective way to use the bits available.

In the same way, it makes sense to use black & white for most elements on screen, and only use colour where you want to grab the user's attention.
An excellent example of this is the "Save/Delete" dialog in Mail.app.

What HAS been an issue is the proximity sensor. Long story short, the phone does a poor job of knowing when it's pressed to your ear, the screen turns on, and you end up either dialing numbers or hanging up. I had an iphone 3g and this was never an issue.

I have this problem with my iPhone 3G. Never had dropped calls, but I always get muted. (Maybe my phone is telling me something!) You can fix it by pressing the sleep button after the call has started. That will lock the touchscreen, preventing any unwanted actions.

one thing the A4 speculation fails to take into account is that iphone os 4 is also to be used on existing iphone and ipod touch devices, and those clearly do not have a A4 under the hood.

Universal Binaries are already available for Intel/PPC macs. Something very similar could be used for iPad & iPhone if they had different CPUs architectures.

Disgruntled Ex-Employee Remotely Disables 100 Cars 384

hansamurai writes "Over one hundred cars equipped with a Webtech Plus blackbox were remotely disabled when a former employee of dealership Texas Auto Center got hold of his employer's database of users. Webtech Plus is repossession software that allows the dealership to disable a car's ignition or trigger the horn to honk when a payment is due. Owners had to remove the battery to stop the incessant honking. After the dealership began fielding an unusually high number of calls from upset car owners, they changed the passwords to the Webtech Plus software and then traced the IP address used to access the client to its former employee."

My big question is, who's paying this "legal group"? Is it the record companies who are trying to keep their old business models? Or is it the ISPs who are looking for an excuse to not provide good service?

Yes, we want to make money. We want to make money 10 years from now. The only way to do that is to build great products that people want. I think we've done a pretty good job of that so far, and we're not planning to stop.
It's always refreshing to hear this sort of thing. The bottom line in any business is money. If you fail to develop something that people want to use, then it will never, ever make any money.

Adsense is the "killer app" of online advertising. From the users' perspective, there is only one reason why adsense is so great: it's the first advertising solution that doesn't annoy the **** out of them! To include images and videos in adsense would completely nullify this feature.
