China is willing to pay more then the American refineries, so it is more profitable to ship it then to refine it. The same thing here in Canada, the local refinery, which is right at the terminus of a pipeline, has to import oil as all the oil sands bitumen is promised to China and we signed a free trade deal that says China gets the bitumen.
Personally I wish the bitumen benefited Canadians and gas would drop below $5 a gallon.

Canada, or rather the foreign oil companies are already planning to build 2 oil pipelines to the west coast as well as reverse the oil pipeline to the east coast. This government really wants to give China the oil as quick as possible, whether through the ports on the Gulf, Kitimat, or Vancouver.
China can outbid America now and has.

American refineries don't pay as good as China so the whole idea is to build the 3 pipelines to ports where it can be shipped to China and refined there.
The Canadian government has repeated this over and over, we need to sell it as quick as possible and it is stupid to create jobs in N. America when China will pay more.

They think alcohol is bad, they should look at tylenol.

But it mostly kills kids and takes long enough for them to die of liver failure that they can pretend otherwise.
Aspirin also kills a lot of people, generally through stomach bleeding. When we were kids we used to try to get high on aspirin + coca cola, way more hazardous then if we'd access to pot or even alcohol.
Have to remember that people, including kids, who are heavily attracted to drugs are trying to escape from their horrible life and are more likely to abuse the drugs. Tylenol mostly kills kids who thinks it is candy.

We've often had more then three parties in Parliament. Way back there was a small Social Credit caucus in Quebec. More recently there was the Reform Party in the west splitting the right wing vote as well as the Bloc in Quebec.
As for the Green party splitting the left, well in our (BC) last Provincial election, the Greens seemed to take votes equally from the right and the left. And federally the left has hardly ever done very well until the last election where the NDP increased their number of seats by almost an order of magnitude, mostly based on having a very well liked leader in Jack Layton. The Liberals have always been mostly center and unlike the Conservatives they actually ran a surplus budget for 8 years

For some contrast, in Canada the Constitutional limit for trail by jury is 5 years. Maximum sentence 5 years less a day, no jury. Maximum sentence 5 years plus a day, the defendant can elect trial by jury, his choice. No sentence is exactly 5 years.
Not sure how I feel about this, in some ways it is good, especially as generally we have good judges in Canada. On the other hand, a jury seems like a right. For civil cases you have to (partially?) pay for the jury and is rare I believe but I'm not very knowledgeable on civil trials.

Actually the Canadian federal government does not pay 100% of health funding in Canada. They do pay a good percentage (which is shrinking due to austerity and the current assholes in power refusing to even talk to the Provinces, little well compromise) which varies on how rich the individual Province is. Here in BC the average working person has to pay more and more in the way of premiums to offset the income tax cuts the government is so fond of.

We need a worldwide effort from every single nation to capture specimens of every mosquito species. Once this is done, all mosquito species should have their genes resequenced so that all males are made sterile, thus destroying this creature in every habitat, worldwide. This entire species has no redeeming value whatsoever, and should be completely eradicated.

Great, wipe out another pollinator and then wonder why the environment is deteriorating. You do realize that male mosquitoes often live on pollen and are a pollinator, as well as many types of mosquito don't bother people.
As stupid as indiscriminately using DDT for everything until resistance was bred instead of treating it more like the nuclear option. We're currently doing the same now with anti-biotics.
