That is well and good. But try to play two programs at once that access the sound device at the same time and all the CPU in the world won't help you there. Who would want to play more then one sound at a time? Try playing some music while the desktop plays a notification sound. Or while online in a vitriol world, play a media stream while attending a music event.

Submission + - "jailbreaking" now allowed in USA (loc.gov)

TechwoIf writes: The Library of Congress just put out new rules for "exemptions" of the DCMA.
Allow owners of used cell phones to break access controls on their phones in order to switch wireless carriers.
Allow people to break technical protections on video games to investigate or correct security flaws.
Allow college professors, film students and documentary filmmakers to break copy-protection measures on DVDs so they can embed clips for educational purposes, criticism, commentary and noncommercial videos.
Allow computer owners to bypass the need for external security devices called dongles if the dongle no longer works and cannot be replaced.

Comment Another one spotted last night. (Score 3, Interesting) 163

I was on my way home last night very late, around 11pm and saw a meter streak about 1/4 the way across the sky. Normally I see them flash a white streak across the sky and burn up quickly, but this one stayed non-white burning stage for a long time and rather slow across the sky. I lost sight of it near the horizon and wonder if that one hit the ground. My location was south central west Indiana and looking east.

The same thing was done in the past. Only 6 inch round headlamps was allowed in cars manufactured and sold in America. It was the best back then, but what happen in the following years is that it stop innovation all together in America and Europe started to make better headlamps. Years ago was the law was repealed and non 6 inch headlamps was allowed to be installed on autos. Took years for America to catch up.

That's due to over 90% of them are regurgitated AP feeds. I was in favor of AP forcing google to filter out there copyrighted AP stories and was hoping AP and google did not streak a deal. But they did. :-( Would have been nice to have a short list of oredgenale reporting stories.

Comment Not suprised that Zilch is leading for now. (Score 1) 596

I'm not a bit surprised that Zilch is leading now. It is not due to every geek/techie being a scrooge, it just a lot of smarter folks know that the big charities are rift with corruption and accounting expenses that take up to 90% of the donated money. This is why I always recommend if one is to donate, find a local charity that puts helping folks/animals first and not accounting expenses first.

I just looked at the xkcd home page redone in geocities style. That is one talented web master to create a home page that managed to mimics every detail of what was bad about geocities web pages. Even right down to the x10 ad. :-)

Comment Water resistant. (Score 1) 220

Is this new standard water resistant? It has to be if it ever gets to military devices. I always though the Apple MAC power connector could easy be water resistant just by sealing the edges around where the connector meets the body during assembly. Just think, expanding that could have a universal connector for mobile devices that can survive a dunk in the pool or toilet.
