Submission + - Crysis "DX10" features unlocked in XP (crysis-online.com)

tomz16 writes: Crysis has been touted by many as the first true DX10 game, offering an unmatched visual experience exclusively on DirectX 10 capable Windows Vista systems. Unfortunately, a nosy meddler recently found that you can unlock the highest "vista-exclusive" detail settings in the DX9 Crysis demo by simply editing a configuration file. The result is yet another game that runs faster and looks virtually indistinguishable on Windows XP! Let's just hope Crytek doesn't "fix" this little oversight in the full release of the game.

Submission + - Ars looks at homeopathy

Andreaskem writes: "The guys from Nobel Intent of the Ars Technica web site today published an article about homeopathy in which they try to "illuminate the general distinctions between science and pseudoscience." They cite articles from the journal Homeopathy and explain the issues scientists take with the conclusions reached by the proponents of homeopathy and the theories they offer. The article concludes with the statement: "...if the practice of homeopathy turns water into a mechanism for helping individuals feel better via a placebo effect, then the only issue with it becomes ensuring that it doesn't prevent people who really need medical intervention from getting it... but a subset of the homeopathic community has consistently demanded that their practice be viewed as scientific, presumably to obtain the credibility that traditional medicine receives.""
