Uh... sexuality is a pretty basic thing you need to know about in life. Things like safe sex, contraception, consent... these are fundamental to a healthy life. And parents don't always teach them properly.

Religion, I agree, should not be taught ins chools. Leave that nonsense to the parents, should they choose to indoctrinate their kids.

In my city's public library system, anyone can request that the library purchase a particular book. AFAIK, these requests are pretty much always granted.

Although I live in Canada, which is often derided as less friendly to freedom of expression than the United States, I am proud that my city's library removed precisely zero of the materials that were challenged.

Yes. There is. I maintain a number of open-source software packages.

But I do that for me, not for an employer. The minute someone else gets to dictate what work I should do, you'd better believe I'll only do it in return for payment.

However, separating your work from your personal onto two separate devices is very good for security and for privacy. IMO, it's worth it.

I'm retired now, but when I was working I had a simple fix for not mixing work and personal stuff on my phone: I didn't give my employer my cell phone number (I had a landline... they got that) and I didn't set up any work-related stuff on my phone.

That's a good thing, though. You shouldn't mix your work and personal devices.

I currently drive a stick-shift and I enjoy it for completely irrational reasons. I know it doesn't save fuel. I know I'm not "more connected" to the car. I just like having more to do when driving; keeps me alert and engaged more.

Maybe if I ever get an EV, I'll go for one with a fake stick-shift just for fun. It depends on the cost.

But what does "quantum yield" mean? The only number that really matters is energy in vs energy out. If it takes 1J of energy to produce fuel that yields 2J, then great. If it takes 2J to produce 1J, then not so great.

Marketers and lobbyists will spin anything. If this tech turns out to be feasible, I think it's a good thing. We can still demand that the fossil fuel industry reduce its emissions at the same time as switching to net-zero energy sources.

Yes, true, but methanol has some advantages. It's a liquid, which is much easier to store and transport than a gas. And if some of it spills, it doesn't escape into the atmosphere (at least, not immediately) unlike a methane leak that injects a greenhouse gas right into the atmosphere.

Uh WTF? "Alphabet people" are not propagandizing. It seems to me its the religions who do the propagandizing, grooming, and brainwashing. You don't see kids getting sent to gay school, but you sure do see a ton of them being sent to religious indoctrination camps AKA Sunday School.
