I agree on both lines of your post.

Patents are a way to turn scarce a resource that naturally isn't (ideas). I still can't see how it helps the whole world on the overall.
The economist Mariana Mazzucato studied drugs patented on the last 20 years and she realized that 75% of them took a government funded research and modified an atom on the molecule to patent it.

The two biggest expenses the average people tend to have in his life are housing and mobility. If we invest in improven the public transportation system you solve both. You can live on a cheaper place farther from the expensive zip codes and move back and forth cheaply, easely and fast. We just need to make public transportation the biggest priority that will solve housing and mobility.

Yep. Markowitz won a Nobel prize explaining why the best (regarding reward/risk) investment is the market protfolio.

That's why VTI is the best possible investment for 99.9999% of human kind. Every other investment either has way more risk for just a few points of extra possible reward, or if they are safer, reward is way lower.
