Jet airliners came into popularity in the 1950s. They are tic-tac-shaped with a few extra fins. Their radar and infrared profiles look like glowing tic-tacs.

As with most of our UFO incidents documented by armed forces, these are misidentified jet airliners. For fuckssake, this isn't rocket science.

Kissinger's a murderous piece of shit, but less well-known is that Schmidt might also be culpable for war crimes. It hinges on exactly what Schmidt did for the State Department in Myanmar, spreading subsidized Internet connectivity; this was part of how Facebook got popular and spread memes which led to the Rohingya genocide.

This just means that you haven't personally accepted the axioms. I mean, on one hand, you've accepted that the natural numbers exist; that's a consequence of believing Goedel's Incompleteness, which is a statement about the natural numbers. On the other hand, you seem to deny that any progress has been made because of proof statements, but that seems like a foolish choice for somebody typing on a computer to make.

What are you trying to demonstrate here? This is Mt. Stupid (SMBC, not xkcd https://www.smbc-comics.com/?i... ); all you've shown is your own unfamiliarity with the natural numbers.

(And yes, it is *the* natural numbers, up to unique isomorphism. One of the bigger triumphs of category theory was to establish what Dedekind meant by "categorical", and to confirm that NNOs behave like that: https://ncatlab.org/nlab/show/...)

Comment Criminality requires evidence (Score 0) 177

Criminality requires evidence, full stop. I personally believe that executives at Uber and Riot were sexually assaulting their employees, but in order to use the hammer of the state against these abusive executives, we must bring forward incontrovertible proof. Prosecuting sexual assault is difficult because of the strong social stigmas against providing this evidence; folks are routinely punished for being victims of sexual assault.

Also, sometimes there's just not a crime committed. Neumann might have grifted millions of dollars from Softbank through WeWork, but he did it with the letter of the law and signatures from everybody involved. Not every ethical bankruptcy is a crime. Criminality is not how we get a more ethical society.

We could ask slightly more useful questions if we don't assume that tech CEOs are good people by default. Then we might directly challenge the system of investment and capital which funds the tech industry, by asking how Theranos, Uber, Riot, WeWork, etc. were ever funded in the first place.

Comment Re:You do know that's Antifa symbol, right? (Score 1) 440

"Some" is a remarkable weasel word. Antifascist communication in the USA consists of black-and-white presentations of block-lettered slogans, rather than cryptic symbols. Antifascist tags in the wild are often spraypainted, chalked, or photocopied, and so there usually isn't any choice of coloration. I can't help but notice that your bag of antifa-labeled accounts all seem to be participating in non-USA political systems.

When actual antifascists show up to counterprotest in the USA, as in this instance in Portland in 2019 (https://www.newsmax.com/newsfront/us-portland-rallies/2019/08/17/id/928893/), they use photocopied fliers to share information using plain text. Note the loud "BE SAFE" at the top. When they show up to the protest, there are no red triangles in sight; indeed, they are infamous for wearing uniformly black light street clothing, suitable for street fights, and masks which frustrate facial recognition.

Symbols which might be seen in the USA include the Three Arrows (WP: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Arrows), which don't really code for much more than punching fascists, and the twin "bisected" or "red-and-black" flags (WP: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchist_symbolism#Bisected_flag), which are sometimes red and black to code for Communism/socialism and anarchism. The latter has a complicated and long history, which is why it's usually not flown on its own, but contextualized with text. This website (https://rosecityantifa.org/articles/fascist-tactics/) and this patch (https://patchpatrol.com/patches/antifascist-fc-black-green-gold/) both use text to explicitly indicate antifascist symbolism rather than any other particular anarchist ideology.

Nobody tries to connect Trump to Nazis directly. Rather, the complaint is that Nazi symbols are being used to encourage violence. Trump is connected to what the FBI calls "racially motivated violent extremists" (https://www.fbi.gov/news/testimony/fbi-oversight-020520) through his advisor Stephen Miller (WP: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_Miller_(political_advisor)), who feeds RMVE ideology up from its spawning pools to Trump, and Sean Hannity (WP: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Hannity), who broadcasts Trump's ideas alongside a context which justifies them. Together with RMVEs themselves, they form an ideological echo chamber which stochastically terrorizes (WP: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lone_wolf_(terrorism)#Stochastic_terrorism) the USA.

I just don't know, man. These days, it seems like nobody can thijngk. Nobody can reafd, nobody can take a moment to reflecvt, and indeed I'd agree with you that thijngking is in short supply.
