What? I've written software myself that uses serial port and parallel port data streams. How do you think an old school modem worked? it sent and received data streams through the serial port, and then software managed those streams to give you your very precious connection to the internet.

Where did you get that number from? did you mean "Australian civilians now own more than 3.5 million registered firearms, an average of four for each licensed gun owner". The key being, 4 per licensed gun owner, not all Australians.

I certainly miss my HP LaserJet 2. I got it used in the 90s from where my Dad worked, and it already had 200k pages printed. It lasted me reliably for another 10 years until I moved overseas.

Alternatives are needed, but when the signup requires a phone number, I'll pass. Its going to be just another platform to monitor you and sell personalized ads, while feeding you another echo chamber.

The dream was to replace barcodes, but it will not happen. I've done several projects involving RFID and passive tags are hard to get 100% reads on. What I've seen companies do in the warehouse is use them on pallets, then you can use a forklift to move the pallet through a gate to read it (also usually have a scanner on the forklift). This way you can put the tag in the best place to ensure readability. Products that are liquids or metals can make RFID placement a really hassle

I've consulted on several manufacturing companies that use active RFID to track the movement of the items down the line. Usually permanently attached to a tote/container/carrier that moves the item down the line. This is really reliable, its even possible to use the tag itself to track status and other information.

I was involved in a research project where they wanted to be able to scan the entire warehouse and identify the physical location of each RFID. Then all you had to do was move things and the warehouse knew.

I'm not super star, but I enjoy hitting the poker table in vegas. Albeit I only play low stakes tables... Even then, I've done similar to a "professional". I was bored, I thought he had nothing so I called him with a 2/7 and won on the river. He was really really not impressed that I was playing "stupidly" and he got caught out. This is the only time betting bored at the poker table actually worked in my favor.

I've got health issues and I had to severely limit my fat intake and no meat for almost 6 months. Thankfully I've recovered enough I can eat all but red meat and deep fried food. When I started my new diet, I couldn't stop from loosing weight, no matter how much I tried to eat. I couldn't eat any vegan food premade off the shelf because of the ingredients list or how high in fat they were. While I was eating vegan, I had to make my food at home from vegetables and grains.

Clock propagation has been a known issue in semiconductor at least since the late 90's when I was studying semiconductor design (yeah I'm date myself). I really should see what techniques that they've come up with since then. Back then they were saying we were reaching the end of Moores Law due to feature size, but they kept kept finding new ways to decrease feature size that previously was thought of as "not possible" due to physics.... and today we've got EUV, and phase-shift pattern masks coming.

So not much has actually been done since then. The only major changes (there are many small incremental changes) that looks new are dynamic frequency changes and being able to selectively stop propagating the clock to save power in shutdown regions of the chip. Since the clock can be as much as 30% of the chip's power consumption, being able to shut it down dynamically really can save some power.

Me too on Metalica, but I have to admit, once in a while I do bring out Master of Puppets. For me the biggest brand I avoid is Sony, since way way back when they installed a root kit my computer when I tried to listen to a CD.
