Well market research isn't political polling but we always used sample sizes much larger. For a much smaller topic. Maybe 1000 is ok, but is it 1000 registered democrats? Unless it can be certain that there is a good cross section, then how can we know.

We made very sure of the sample sizes as well as the type of person we were interviewing. What is their background, experience with the products, things like that.

Whether or not I agree with the results isn't important. What is important is that the sample is a reasonable cross section of the population if it is meant to represent all of America.

1000 out of 300 million +. Like the original poster said, is it 1000 people from NYC? Or 1000 from Texas?

I have worked in market research and understand the sample sizes and statistical analysis.

The question remains, where are the 1000 people from? Answer that and then we will have a clearer picture of the validity of the results.

Tell ya what. I did the bay area thing for almost 20 years. Then a giant rock (my mortgage) hit me in the head and I got wise. I have a house 3X the size for 1/4 the cost. I make the same salary I did in silicon valley and, well, the scenery is certainly different. But not bad. The people are nice and there is creativity here if you know where to look.

Bay Area was cool. For a while... Not anymore.

Really? The media consistently shows us that their are 2 parties and never even talks about the other parties out there. Maybe if they did they would become what you refer to as "legitimate." I suppose Ron Paul is not a legitimate candidate? The media wrote him off and treated him as a joke long before the primaries were over. The media presents 2 parties that are almost identical and calls it "Americas Choice $YEAR". They perpetuate the NO choice system that Americans live in today.

A previous poster said it well, "supporting either of these candidates makes one part of the problem in this country." I would have to agree really. If people really want to see our government run the way it was designed, with a return to personal liberty and responsibility, then we have to get away from the 2 parties. It really is that simple. The question is how do we get the media to stop presenting the 2 parties as the only choices?
