Comment Re:Too bad we don't have rules to deal with this (Score 1) 839

I actually got to see the city people out and about with their picks and what-not cleaning the snow out - had never thought about that being needed until a recent storm. The hoods over the lights I saw did have open bottoms. Unfortunately, the snow managed to build up in there anyways, probably not unlike how I had an couple of inches sticking to the side of my car. (That's my own darn fault for not parking in the garage...)

Will they really need a carrier subsidy? We've been able to get netbooks at retail in the $300 range; rather than drop the price over time, they up the specs to hold at that price point. If components continue to drop in price or increase in capability, shouldn't the specs that were hinted at be possible at the $300 price point without a mobile carrier?

That's not entirely accurate... I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10 from an older distro, and ended up needing to replace my video card because it was no longer supported. (Now, it may be true that I could have spent some amount of time making things work, but I thought the goal was to have things "just work" for the average person.) So, yes, it's true I didn't need to get a whole new machine, I did end up having to shell out for a new video card, which wasn't cheap.

Larger iPod Touch In Apple's Future? 197

Ender_Stonebender writes "TechCrunch is reporting that three independent sources have mentioned to them a large form factor version of the iPod Touch, with either a 7- or 9-inch screen, to be released fall of 2009. The device is expected to have access to the iTunes App Store. Beyond that, everything about it appears to be pure speculation."

Submission + - Group raises money for Child's Play w/ video game. (desertbus.org)

James writes: "Hey, just thought you guys might find this kinda cool. A Victoria, BC (Canada) web based sketch comedy group has found a cool way to raise some money for Child's Play this year. They are playing Desert Bus, a mini game within Penn and Teller: Smoke and Mirrors. Basically they keep driving until the donations stop. They have already raised 1100.00 dollars and haven't really gotten much press about it. If you guys were able to give them a link i am sure that would help them emensely in reaching their 5000.00 dollar goal. Check them out at www.desertbus.org"

Submission + - evolution

Bob Wilson writes: "Evolution requires struggle, be in getting a promotion in the office, studying hard in school, or baking a cake. Without struggle there can be no evolution. Religion, of course, ignores it entirely. Liberals look so hard to find Utopia that they ignore it as well. Russia stagnated under Communism because it renounced the needs of evolution. Unfortunately, many in the scientific community are liberals and again, liberals look for utopia instead of facts, working only on their own limited fields. Politicians play only to the popular views, whatever they may be, and of course the requirements of evolution are ignored. Evolution cannot be found in a socialist, communist or welfare state. There must be struggle or there is no evolution."
