That is a good point, however let's be honest - their minds are in a scientifically proven state of meditating when they are meditating and to me it sounds healthier than multi tasking 10 different things at once. Why, it was only yesterday we had the news of http://tech.slashdot.org/story/10/08/25/1234231/Digital-Devices-Deprive-Brain-of-Needed-Downtime Just thought it was quite relevant.

I think it's selfish for parents who will know for certain their children will have the same disease/problems as them. Perhaps if people were more open to adoption we might see less intense willingness to 'have your own', the end of the day it's a blank human and it's not hard to make a child, it's hard to raise one to the best of your abilities.

I'm ill informed in the subject but I hope there are rules in place to stop say, two people genetically very, very poor (e.g. their children guaranteed to have extreme issues). Down syndrome and so on...

Also it's a bit of a gamble isn't it at the end of the day? For me I'd quite like the idea of knowing that the child I will adopt will be quite healthy ... I don't have the risk of having a child myself and have it turn out with severe mental issues. I realise people with severe mental issues are still able to fully enjoy life but if you don't have the time/resources money then I feel it's quite selfish.

Looks like most of the causes were due to being rushed. It confuses me that people complain about these services which, if rushed, are life-threatening. An example, my friends brother was rushing to get home quick in his car. He was over tired and it was at night with icy roads. As you can guess he crashed and took out a persons garden wall, luckily he didn't die and had minor injuries. However, his aim was to get from A to B faster by a couple minutes by driving quicker - this then caused him to have around a 16 hour delay by staying in a hospital over night. Ironic.

This really is turning into a great tool for obsessive people. Here's an example; I'm on facebook and I am updated about what new friends my friends have. Why on earth should I know this? It is utterly pointless and makes you feel like a stalker. As for the location business, it's like a ticking time bomb to me until the media focus on a particular crime where the attacker used facebook as a means to gather private information about whereabouts. Facebook is either really stupid, or they think they are invincible.

French Net Censorship Plan Moves Forward 108

angry tapir writes "French lawmakers have voted to approve a draft law to filter Internet traffic that Slashdot previously discussed. The government says the measure is intended to catch child pornographers. The Senate, where the government has a majority, will soon give the bill a second reading. If the Senate makes no amendments to the text, that will also be its final reading, as the government has declared the bill 'urgent,' a procedural move that reduces the usual cycle of four readings to two."

You know what I hope? That by the time all the people who stick with XP and time comes where they eventually have to migrate, that someone, or some volunteers build a 'XP conversion' utility for windows 7 so that the transition isn't so bad. At work I had to use windows 7 for a little bit but it left a bad taste in my mouth. There was some nice stuff but I like how I can use 'classic' mode in control panel, for example. I am sure there will be an app like this - perhaps nLite will do this?
