What a vicious underhanded blow to poor old Google who is just trying to save the "open web". How can the open web, or whatever, survive if google search engine marketshare dips below 92%? If it got a bit lower, google might not be able to force amp links on everyone. And if Bing managed to get 3% marketshare things could really take a turn for the worse, people might even start giving half a shit about other search engines!

A lot of people seem to have seen this as a way to get a better deal on internet and that always seemed like an imagined promise to me. This is going to be a god send for people who have no options or very poor options, mostly in rural areas. But if you live in a city its kind of a bizarre solution to the problem.

But the good news even if you don't use it will have a positive impact on you. Its mere existence will cap the amount of bullshit the existing players can pull, which makes me wonder how it ever got approved in the first place.

Comment Where's the lawsuit though? (Score 1) 104

The bloomberg piece certainly looked like a bunch of BS when it first showed up. And then all the big boys started leaning on them, demanding a retraction. That was awhile ago. Now they're at it again with the same.

Why haven't Apple and Amazon just sued them to force a retraction at this point? Don't tell me its because they're to busy or broke to sue.

Its a good thing users aren't downloading dangerous software from just any old place on the web and are instead getting trusted software from Google's official source where they know that Google engineers have closely checked the source for any malicious intent. And google can help keep your software up to date with the latest versions to assure the highest level of security!

Comment Un-welded iGPUs (Score 3, Interesting) 14

Since these things only work on coffeelake S and cometlake S using only certain midrange and low range chipsets that have special bioses, this is actually worse than an iGPU. At least the iGPU works in all the chipsets.

Despite denials from Intel, this certainly seems a lot like they're taking cpu dies where the the cpu part is dead and just selling the iGPU part after doing the bare minimum to get it up and running.

I wonder if the higher end cards will have the same problems when they show up.
