Comment Difference between NASA and SpaceX (Score 5, Interesting) 29

A few random observations:
1 - How smoothly SpaceX mission has gone, and what a trainwreck the Boeing Starliner mission was last December
2 - Congrats and good luck for tomorrow's splashdown
3 - SpaceX Hawthorne Mission Control - every body socially distanced, all wearing mass. NASA Houston - No masks.

Comment Only at sunrise and sunset (Score 3, Interesting) 132

Unless I'm missing something, this seems sensationalistic.
First, there are currently only about 120 Starlink satellites in orbit, so it's not currently doing more than other existing satellites are doing.
Second, they aren't going to be lit up once they are in earth's shadow. Since they're only a few hundred miles high, that would only be for a short time after sunset and before sunrise, correct?

So somebody please explain how even ten thousand satellites in orbit will mess up the night sky once the sun has been down for an hour or so.

It's not whether they support the USA.
For example I recently heard that China was asking questions on VISAS about incomes, how much money you have, etc.
That's reason enough for me to not go to visit China.

If I'm say European and I don't want my social media in the hands of US spooks, why would I give all that info to them? It's like saying "here, take a recording of all the phone calls I've made in the past few years". I'm not going to settle for that, even if I've never done anything wrong. There are plenty of other places in the world to visit.
