It just makes sense from their point of view and also to some others out there who are looking at it objectively.

Guess who's point of view I have!

Seriously; the moaning about (and now charging for) the second hand games market like it's some sort of non-legit activity is a pretty big anti-consumer move on Sony's (and other publisher's) part.

IANAL either, but I would expect that GameStop owns the games until they sell them, and can do with them as they wish, given that the games are their property. What they are obligated to do or not to do contractually with the game maker may be a different story.

Would messing with the contents of the game box affect their ability to claim that it's "new"? I genuinely don't know but my expectation of buying a new product would be that it is the product the manufacturer shipped out, no changes, no wear and tear (well, transport bumps), no missing pieces etc. Taking stuff out the box and selling as new is dodgy in my opinion but I don't know the legal stuff here.

The "crap" newspapers sell themselves on topless photos which tbh aren't all that good. The "good" newspapers are depressing as anything but do occasionally manage to put 3 half decent columns in the same issue. I have no idea why I would want to give money to either category of organisation.

So your particular skillset has fallen out of vogue for a while; it happens. If this stuff is useful, it'll come back. For instance, a lot of the hardware related skills mentioned are still around, they're just considered to be a specialisation these days, in most situations it's safe to assume that the hardware either performs within spec or that the lower layer (OS etc) is dealing with any irregularities.

Find some dirt on the BSA and chase them with it. You already have a false accusation letter which will cost you money to deal with maybe you could hound them for those costs until you find something bigger to take them on with. And remember, discovery is your friend, use it on anything and everything, it'll make them squirm.

Ultimately what they need to do is cut the crap. Look at the successful paid for music services and copy them. I can go onto amazon pay money and get unencrypted zero-bullshit music files in return and the whole thing works brilliantly. If I want to do the same but buy a film... I don't even know who will take my money off me, amazon certainly won't. Streaming is an option but I try to avoid subscriptions where possible (my finances may go wobbly in the near future), as is having discs shipped out and ripping them myself (haven't checked if bluray has been fixed to make this work). If someone would just put 264 in mkv behind a legit payment option I would take it and I'm sure many others would too.
