I agree with you in principle, but watch 10 minutes of Empire Strikes Back, and then watch Attack of the Clones.

The dialogue in ESB (and generally, the entire first trilogy) is much snappier and wittier. The prequels, on the other hand, are stuff with exposition and characters stating their explanations and motives. There's a world of difference between the two trilogies.

First of all, it's AMD.

Second of all, ATI is owned by AMD. Because of them, AMD makes graphics cards. AMD also sells technology that allows two AMD cards to be used on one motherboard. Therefore, AMD will probably not pay money for the same technology that lets people purchase and use two competitor's products.

First, let me just say that I love John Carmack.

The reason I love him is because in the TFA he explains why they did this:

"We're really getting kind of tired competing with our own publishers in terms of how our titles will be featured... They are triple A, top-of-the-line in what they do in the RPGs. And they have no overlap with all the things we do in the FPSes."

They didn't sell because of Zenimax's leadership. They sold so they don't have to worry about the publishing end of the business. Zenimax now distributes id and Bethesda games, and since they don't compete in the market, id doesn't have to worry about Zenimax giving them the shaft. Meanwhile, id stays independent and keeps doing what its doing.

I see what you mean. But they'd still have to drop at least three lines to the ground -- and likely even more -- so the kite doesn't sway unpredictably.

This, plus the radius around which there could potentially be falling debris, or severance, leads me to wonder whether this wishful thinking, or something that could seriously be commercialized.

As a counterpoint, wouldn't it be easier to install turbines in the ocean and harvest tidal forces?

New York already has the most congested airways in the country, and possibly in the world. If these kites are at 30,000 feet, and most commercial airplanes fly around 35,000 feet, how are we not going to have a bunch of severed kites everywhere?
