Comment Misguided (Score 1) 95

Wow.. yet another misguided application of technology.
Why does this need to be decentralized? Answer: It doesn't
Does this need to be efficient? Answer: Presumably yes, this solution won't scale well
How straightforward is this solution? Answer: Its not, and the maintenance cost is super high

Yes, I can probably do most of my job from a mainframe and cobol too, but that would likely get me fired since its not a responsible choice of technologies. Clearly, a lack of leadership going on here

Comment Re:Replace commuter turboprops? (Score 1) 336

This is a nine-passenger aircraft. No matter how cheap it is, it can't replace a common turboprop commuter aircraft like the Q400, which seats 80-90 people.

Uhh... I beg to differ. Reorient the seats, do some creative accounting with all the extra inches; give everyone the 12"-16" they need to squeeze in single file and sittting on shoulders... I can see 120-150 seats fitting into the 9 seater based on current trends.

The HQ2 contest was a scam all along, Bezels has already decided where he wanted to put the new HQs and indeed Bozos already had residences at those 2 new cities not far from where the new HQs will be. It was a ploy by Beelze' to reduce taxes as much as possible and of course it worked.

My thoughts exactly! The choice of NY and DC as your headquarters was clearly a foregone conclusion. They obviously knew before the contest started that these were the locations. You don't move into NY or DC for a tax reasons or for good employees, you do it because you want the influence that comes in having a presence in those areas.

You want to conquer the world, these locations are your venue.

Seriously, why are there not criminal charges pending? Perhaps they stopped and reported it. But had they done that, why did the PR at Waymo not cite the police report? Conversely, a police report would have been created for the victim in the case of a hit and run -- where is the investigation into the Camry? Shoddy journalism. Fairly one sided view of the incident

why bother to print one? why the fear of printed ones? just a gun.

... The cost associated with 3D printing is a race to the bottom.

You're price points don't reflect what the price will be in 50 years - when it's pennies to print a weapon, with no regulatory hoops to jump through, no background checks, and no mandatory waiting period.. the question is then, why bother buying a traditional weapon?

Submission + - Microsoft comes clean over Windows 10 data connections 6

AmiMoJo writes: Microsoft has responded to criticisms over the amount of data many users fear Windows 10 exfiltrates by publishing all the various endpoints the operating system connects with. The website is part of Microsoft's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) compliance and forms part of a 438-page document (PDF). A Microsoft developer admitted that the list is not exhaustive.

Explorer connects to a Microsoft weather service for the OneNote Live Tile. The remedy, for people who don't want this is either to uninstall OneNote or to disable the Microsoft Store. Explorer also connects to Facebook out of the box, which can be disabled by uninstalling the Facebook app.

Some connections, though, can't be blocked, or switched off with uninstalls, such as the Automatic Root Certificates Update component that checks on the list of trusted authorities on Windows Update to see whether an update is available. Likewise, Device Authentication.
