Comment "An FPS..." (Score 1) 172

Just because "F" sounds like "Ef" does not mean that you use "an." It should read "A FPS..." I don't care how dumb the game concept is, I just care that the headline is easily parsable. -- Today's Grammar Nazi

I and a few of my friends who have spent a large portion of our lives backpacking and doing other out-doorsie things can tell where north is sans compass just by feel. This is not looking at moss or the sun or the stars -- it is really sensing north. In a closed room we can do it with very high success rates. I can recall a story from ./ some time ago that had a fella who wore a belt with a vibrating magnet that always "pointed" north, and after wearing the belt for some time, he claimed that he could naturally sense north. I can't find the link. Perhaps someone else knows it.

I got a BS in Business Administration, and I could not find a non-sales job for anything back in 2005. EVERY decent paying job (ie, greater than 35k) required 5 years experience. How could you get experience if you can't afford to work for that rate? At least, with coding, you can work on some open source projects.

Well, I have been dismissed from the potential jury pool twice. Once, I really needed to get out of it for work (so I said that I was completely biased towards what the police had to say and would support their claims, no matter how outlandish), and the other one was going to last, at minimum, a month. Had I not had an upcoming vacation, I would have likely sat on that jury. I am not trying to avoid it -- in fact, I feel that it would be a good experience to serve at least once.

Solve the equation, using RPN:

I don't even know if you can use the equal sign like this in RPN....or if you can even solve an equation with RPN. RPN is considered unconventional because 2 + x - 4 = 3x is more in line with what we want students to be able to solve. When they finally use some assembly to create a calculator, then they will appreciate RPN.

Assuming that the speeding tickets all go to locals (bad assumption, I know), that is $1,115 in traffic fines per person funding the local government. Add to this that a paragraph down from your quote, it says that the camera's company receives 40% of the payout. Would this mean that the $2.9 million in ticket revenue is only 60% of the paid fines? If so, then each person's average annual traffic fines would raise from $1,115 to nearly $1,860. The article says that each ticket is $40. That would be 28 to 47 tickets per person per year (depending on the "revenue" numbers being pre or post camera company payout).

The moon did not appear any bigger in the sky, but I do recall that the night was VERY bright. I could see better then than I tend to be able to right after dusk most days (we live in a steep canyon). I could see all the surrounding terrain and all the way down my street that has heavy tree coverage. It was pretty cool. Today, however, we have clouds and rain. :(
