Apparently many are foregoing the morning coffee for something sweeter, according to
this article: "There is nothing better than the feel of Coke on the back of your throat in the morning," said McKinsey, a morning pop drinker since the 1970s, savoring the cold, stinging sensation that coffee drinkers just don't get. What gets Slashdotters going after waking up?

My users are clamoring for MS Project. I know there's got to be a better way to provide project management functionality to them. We're not a consultancy, these are internal corporate projects. Our needs are fairly simple, and I don't think we're at all unique. We're essentially looking for a task tracking application that can display project timelines and To-Do lists for project teams. Most projects are simple, with less than 20 tasks and minor dependencies. Although we've put a lot of effort into making dotProject work for us, it's just not cutting it, for many reasons.
We need something that users will buy into. Ease of use is a must. LDAP (or other directory) integration for authentication is important. Slick, dynamic Gantt charts are important, particularly charts that print well. Open-source is ideal, but we're not afraid to pay good money for something that is platform-independent (browser based), standards-supporting, and at least somewhat customizable.
What are your suggestions?

Simple question here, maybe it's already been asked.
Here is the case: I found a working computer on the street the other day, a 733 mHz Celeron with 256 mb or ram and a running copy of Windows XP on it (which is a legal copy as the box still has it's licence sticker with the windows-key on it, oh the irony).
I was wondering what steps the average slashdotter would take with such a computer, in order to make sure it's running smoothly and securely, and to then make it completely one's own? I'd like to avoid the "format everything and start from scratch" plan, since my mum will be using it so I might as well keep XP and the installed Office she is used to. (And yes, I might dual-boot it with something else to show her alternatives, I know).

It seems that CompUSA has struck an exclusive deal with Microsoft to start selling Office 2007, and Vista on November 30th. This is two months before any other retailer will have it on their shelves. There still is a catch. Only Vista Business edition can be purchased, with at least 5 licenses. You must speak to a CompUSA representative to purchase the software.

What do you do if you have one of the first few thousand PlayStation 3s in the US? Take it apart
Kristopher Kubicki & Marcus Yam have done just this over as Daily Tech.
From the article: A little more than a year ago I was one of the lucky few outside of Microsoft to see the inner workings of an Xbox 360. This weekend I had the chance to once again delve into the inner workings of a truly next-generation console.
Daily Tech
and yes it will run Linux!

It's great to know that while some people are using cellular technology to rebuild communication networks in developing countries, Britney Spears uses her cell phone to dump her husband. According to a Cnet article, Fed-Ex as Federline is now known, is featured on a Canadian documentary where he appears distressed after reading a text message. What's absolutely hilarious is that Fed-Ex, who is now suing for custody of their children, apparently continued filming the documentary after reading the text — obviously he really cared for the girl.

What happened to Radioshack? Radioshack use to be the local store where I could buy electronic parts whenever I needed them, sadly it seems their stores are as useless for parts as any other major electronics store. What happened?

Lines for the PS3 have NOT YET FORMED. I live in LA, and I went by a couple stores last night and called a couple others. I didn't see anyone, nor did the people I talked to at Best Buy report any people waiting outside. The idea of people waiting over a week is ridiculous. How did these two photographs get past THREE news sites without confirmation (CAG,VGB, /.)?? Am I the first person in the WORLD to actually call and confirm the veracity of the photos?

In Part 1 of the HRRG series you learned the creation of the HRRG and how you can be involved. Now in Part 2 learn how to partition the system, trading off between implementation complexity, granularity, and flexibility, while also minimizing the bandwidth required to communicate among the various modules.
