In school, C64 was the rage, but my dad thought the Intel stuff was the way to go. First PC: AT&T (Olivetti) 286 - 12Mhz 2MB RAM, 1.44 Floppy, 42MB MFM HDD, Mono CGA graphics adaptor with DOS 5 + Norton Utilities. Christmas got a VGA adaptor and display. Saved and purchased a 2400 baud modem. Originally was kinda bummed as the C64 was color and familiar, but learned QuickBasic (without line statement numbers!), then C - so glad my dad got me into Intel based system early on - learnt a lot & stuff that is still useful to this day. Threw out the computer nearly 30 years ago, got the same system 'recently' from Computer Reset in Texas. So happy I have it again. The sounds heard when you turn it on are amazing. By the way ZERO C64 hate - I have one too, it's nifty. Can't beat the boot up time : )
